Could not start OpenVPN (openvpnstart returned with status #226)

Unable to load net.tunnelblick.tun and/or net.tunnelblick.tap kexts in 5 tries. Status = 71
I looked around here, and saw some people had similar problems with earlier versions of the software and sometimes upgrading to the beta release worked. So I tried this and upgraded to 3.6.10 beta01but I still get the same error.
Any ideas?
Version: Tunnelblick 3.6.10beta01 (build 4700)
OS: macOS Sierra 10.12.1

My problems where fixed by running:
sudo kextunload -b net.sf.tuntaposx.tap
sudo kextunload -b net.sf.tuntaposx.tun
