The functionality of the software can be truly evaluated by professional mechanics and car engineers, but it is said that it can easily replace more complex monitoring tools e.g. the Subaru Select Monitor. While the latter is a paid option, FreeSSM is an open-source project and can be used commercially free of charge.
There is a third-party tool called VXDIAG which claims to work with SSM3 and they provide instructions on cracking the software. Most are interested in it for personal use. PP think it good when use VXDIAG SSM3: -subaru-ssm3-diagnosis-remote-programming-confirmed/
A SM2 would work good for you. I have that setup but I only have the immobilizer cartridge and the 01-06 cartridge. The cartridges are about 4-500 a piece. I think the one for older models is like 700. A BDM Pro scantool is the same thing.( That is the one I have) There have been a few on Feebay over the years. I mainly bought mine to do subarus. I heard the program evoscan does quite a bit for subarus.

So, I was about to schedule a 30,000 mile service, and asked the service rep what the service includes. In addition to the usual, he mentioned (and I'm paraphrasing because I didn't write it all down) that the tech will recalibrate my car's computer, drive it, check for codes, test it, monitor it, and clear its memory of any errors.
So I've been trying to go down the rabbit hole of car monitoring solutions, and I'm more confused than ever. I have an accessport v3, but after my car got broken into in March and my earlier AP being stolen (plus the ensuing panic and stress of trying to get an ap to my tuner before the Cobb lockout) I'm looking to hide that away and switch to a cleaner solution to monitor the car.
I have a 2006 subaru sti,and I'm interested in trying to build an android head unit that'll display btssm. Off their website and other research, I'm a little confused by k-line, can mode, ssm, and ecu patches. Ideally I'd like to use a Bluetooth connection to display data as quickly as the AP gets it, but a lot of forum pages and posts don't seem to have been updated since 2016. So my questions:
Through the years a lot has changed about diagnostic procedures and more importantly the tools in which are used to help a Technician reach the right conclusions. Pictured below are the three different Subaru Select monitors that have been in use. The current version is part scan tool and part pc based platform that also gives us the ability to re-flash a Subaru vehicles ECM (Engine Control Module). This is an important distinction between us and some of the other shops around, we believe in staying current with the diagnostic tools and procedures to keep you Subaru running its best.
The Subaru Select Monitor II came out in time for OBD II (On Board Diagnostics two) and is a big step up from the Select monitor, being able to read multiple lines of data, tap into other systems the ability to graph sensor readings and it has a built in volt ohm meter with digital oscilloscope. The Subaru select monitor II has the ability to re-flash the ECM as well with the proper flash cartridge.

In addition, VW Car-Net Security & Service offers remote vehicle access, remote door lock and unlock, remote honk and flash of lights, last parked location information, and remote status check (doors and windows). Consumers will also be able to send a location from their compatible connected smart device to the factory-installed compatible navigation system on select models. For consumers who prefer a more personal touch, agent destination assist is also available.
The available VW Car-Net app for smartwatch (supports select Apple WatchTM and Android WearTM operating systems) allows VW customers to control a host of Security & Service features and functions available through the iPhoneTM and AndroidTM apps and Customer Web Portal, directly from their wrist. Smartwatch wearers can keep tabs on their vehicle, remotely locking and unlocking doors and viewing the status of doors, windows and sunroof (open or closed). These consumers can also find a parked vehicle more quickly, with a map of the current vehicle location, and get walking or driving directions to the vehicle. Drivers can check their fuel level and receive alerts with a compatible smartwatch.
The GLI also features, as standard, the impressive XDS Cross Differential System. This technology acts somewhat like an electronic substitute for a traditional mechanical limited-slip differential, working by actively monitoring data from each wheel sensor. If the suspension becomes unloaded, the system automatically applies braking to the driven inside wheel as needed to reduce understeer (the tendency for the front wheels to run wide). This not only helps keep the Jetta on the road, but can also help improve handling and cornering performance.
ParkPilot, equipped on Jetta GLI models, uses ultrasonic sensors located in the front and rear bumpers to monitor a range of up to five feet in front or behind the vehicle. The system is activated when reverse gear is engaged or below a speed of 9 mph and helps provide guidance when parking or in tight spaces. The system has audible and visual warnings when the car starts to approach parked cars or static objects from the front or rear.
