Is it possible to have a backend app that would use hard-coded log-in
info (email, password), to automatically authenticate with Oauth in V2
of the api?

One of the basic uses of this userless oauth flow will to be able to
pull down and keep track of the daily follower count of each of my
blogs. It doesn't really make sense for a user to have to click
'accept' for my app to have access to this info.

Does that make sense?

You're looking to use xAuth, which you have to specifically request to use from Tumblr.

Look on http://www.tumblr.com/oauth/apps  under  xAuth.

You can ask Tumblr to enable XAuth on your app, which allows you to log in the way you've requested.

You need to contact Tumblr and ask for it to be enabled on your app.
