It is with great pleasure that I am announcing Fat Cat Motorsports as
the official sponsor of the 2012 Texas Miata Roundup. For those of
you that have not signed up, Shaikh has offered a Grand Prize Raffle
Prize of an FCM Elite fixed-damping coilover system (approximately
$2000 value) if we get 50 Miata owners to attend the Roundup. If that
doesn’t frost your cake, a Grand Prizewinner will take home an FMC
Elite Single-Adjustable coilover system ($3000) if we get 100 Miata
owners. If we break the attendance record of the past Roundups, with
150 Miata owners, the prize is a $4000 FMC Elite Double-adjustable
coilover system. Of course there will be other goodies from vendors/
sponsors such as BEGI, Flyin’ Miata, Treasure Coast Miata, Online
Mazda Parts, 2-Limited, Parts Group, Auto Xpressions and more.
My personal exposure to the FCM suspension is knowing several owners
with the fixed-damping system. This entry-level unit is both
incredible both for the long haul, as from Houston to Corpus Christi
and use on the autocross venue. Good for at least 2 seconds at
autocross. If you throw in the “twisties” there is more than most
drivers can utilize. I can only imagine the intermediate units.
So…just a reminder, the hotel for this years Roundup is on Seawall
Blvd. in Galveston. You’re given a beautiful view of the ocean from
your room with the wonderful amenities of the Hilton Resort on the
Island. Along with our beaches are the plethora of “tourist”
attractions: the Flight Museum, Moody Gardens, the Tall Ship Elissa
(clipper ship tour), Seawolf Park (Submarine tour), the Famous Strand
(shopping), Dolphin Tours, Harbor Tours, the brand new Pleasure Pier
(amusement park on the water)…and some of the best seafood on the
coast.
We may not have the twisty roads of Blue Bonnet with the Three Twisted
Sisters, or Tejas with Lime Creek Road or Tumbleweed with Big Bend so
what I’ll offer for those of you that absolutely have to have the tire
screeching, rubber burning, adrenaline rush that only comes from
behind the wheel, a shot at karting at Motor Sport Ranch Houston.
There is a nice drive to the track from Galveston with the end reward
of one of the larger karting track available, 3 karts wide, with a 12
foot banked curve on one end. A fast time is right at a minute. The
Houston Club has used this for our annual “Hangover Run”. We have a
large group of competitive drivers. Make no bones about it, this is
an adult karting track and you will be worn when finished.
