I don't know about you, but I've noticed a big uptick in the spam
getting through google groups. I want to keep the group open, but I
don't want to give newcomers the impression that the group is just
dead with spam.

I figure we've got a few options. The simplest is just for everyone to
occasionally go to http://groups.google.com/group/tulsaphp and read
through the archives, reporting spam.

Beyond that, we could bless a few central planners to dictate order.
That might work via invite-only-subscriptions, subscriber-moderation,
message-moderation or something else. Can you tell I'm not a big fan?

Of course, we could always switch list providers. I doubt we'll do
much better hosting it ourselves, but it's always an option. If
you're open to this, I'd encourage you to look at Zed Shaw's Libre
List, but it's relatively new.

Anything else we should consider? Is it time for dramatic action? Or a
slight course adjustment? Or for me to shut up and stop rocking the
boat?

I think you're right. I'll promote a couple more people - Joseph and
Brad - to be group managers so more of us can report spam and ban the
spam accounts. If that doesn't curtail the spam, we may have to do
subscriber moderation.

Now that I have Moderator status, I changed some of the rules for
posting which should help with the SPAM. Now to get the meetings back
on track... :)

Greetings,

I have not used PHP frameworks and thought I would teach myself one over the holidays.  Does anyone have a recommendation?  Which would look best on my resume?

Thinking of CakePHP, Drupal, Symfony, or Zend.

Thanks!

Greg
