Mail Security for MS Exchange is installed directly onto your exchange servers, and is able to scan mail-at-rest on the information stores, as well as mail-in-transit on the transport servers. Therefore, it is able to provide a full scan of old emails, as well as being able to scan all mail (both internal and external).
The Messaging Gateway is a separate appliance (physical or virtual, it's up to you), that sits in the mail flow and it usually used as the edge MTA. This only scans email that goes in or out of the company (it cannot normally see internal-only mail), but is more feature-rich (daily spam digests, more granular content control) and has the added side benefit of blocking spam before it gets to yous exchange servers, therefore lowering the load on them.
We have a central mail security console that our exchange servers connect to. All but our Windows Server 2012 systems check in fine without any issue, but the WS 2012 boxes prompt up the authentication box when trying to add them to our console.
In our exchange environment, we have three mailbox server in MZ zone and Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) and PGP (for Encryption) as email security appliance. After enable exchange hybrid, we facing issue while sending mail from exchange to office 365 (exchange online). In our exchange server we allowed internet through proxy that's why we are unable to route mail from exchange to office 365 directly. So, we try to route through SMG but loop luck (Loop detected).
