to Mr. Bell's class
the prompt and rubric are in the files section of this page under
"tales of a 4th grade something".
The other reason it needs to be in cursive and print is that PGCPS
integrates cursive handwriting into the curriculum by having all final
drafts written in cursive in the 4th grade. It is expected that it
was covered in previous years. While we all know the reality is that
cursive has been covered, but not stressed. So I will have most
final drafts written in both cursive and print so the class meets this
standard, but poor cursive handwriting will not be penalized in this
case.
Over the school year we will touch back on handwriting (for my benefit
and the students Mrs. Hall, the school reading specialist, has offered
to teach handwriting to the students and me). Once it has been
sufficiently covered it will be added to grading rubrics.
The written in pen (blue or black, but students who did not have a
blue or black pen were given a blue pen since that is what I had in
the cupboard) is more of a preference from me. It makes the final
draft look neater, and makes it stand out from previous drafts.
