I'm running LyX 1.6.5 on Ubuntu Lucid, and using the most current
version of Tufte-LaTeX. I'm a newb to both LyX and Tufte-LaTeX.

I would like to do a global format change of margin notes and side
notes to shrink the size to 8 points. If someone could instruct me on
how to do this, I would be most grateful.

Hello.

By default, the margin notes, side notes, captions, and citations are
set in 8 pt font with a 10 pt leading.

If you want to change the size of the margin notes, you can use the
\setmarginfont command:

\setmarginfont{\scriptsize}% sets the margin notes to be 7 on 8.

There are similar commands for the other material:

\setsidenotefont
\setcaptionfont
\setmarginnotefont
\setcitationfont

You can find more information about these and other formatting
commands in the "Customizing Marginal Material" section (starting on
page 30) of the sample-book.pdf file. The list of font sizes provided
by the Tufte-LaTeX document classes is shown in table 1 on page 19.

Hi,

I have a a TL doc and I use the sfsidenotes class option and it seems that that option has the side effect of making the sans serif captions the default doc size.

All the other captions looks like size 8 as suggested in the thread above.
(that means
  1. normal fig captions  - which are set in the margin but not in a sans font
  2. margin notes
  3. margin citations
I am wondering if this is as planned or a bug,

best regards,

HI,

my issue is mainly that I had put in the wrong type of margin note - I have fixed this so it looks much better now.

best regards,

Dave

I didn't fully understand your previous email. Did you find a
solution to the problem you were having?

Do you think there is a bug? If it was a misunderstanding, do you
think the documentation could be improved to prevent future
occurrences?

Thanks!

hi,

Sorry! I can't remember if I replied.

Using the sfsidenotes option switches the margin notes and captions of
margin figures to Sans, but not the captions of figures in the text
area (although the caption is put in the margin.

The size looks odd because the sans font x-height I am using is much
bigger then the serif font, the baseline to baseline dist. is the
same.
It looked odd at first - but now I am used to it.
