part style in Lyx book(tufte) document

i get consistently an error message if i use the part style for a
title of a part of a book.

the error message is:
part{part test }

The control sequence at the end of the top line
of your error message was never \def'ed.

i can produce it with a minimal file with title, part heading, chapter
heading and some text. an output is produced for the minimal file, but
not for a larger text. then no output is produced.

example of your problem.

I've just performed a quick test (attached) and it appeared to work okay here.

Can you provide us with a short document that demonstrates the problem
you're having? Also, if you can attach the .log file we can read the
error output and provide some assistance.

thank you very much for your offer to help. as i said, i use lyx and
the problem occurs with the most restricted example (newfile3.lyx
included - i do not see how to attach a file.

I copied this code into a newfile3.lyx file, opened it with LyX, and
created a PDF and it didn't report any errors.

I also exported the file from LyX to LaTeX format and compiled it from
there to a PDF without any errors.

LaTeX is complaining that \@xxivpt isn't defined. This is used in the
current version of Tufte-LaTeX. Do you know if you set this value
somewhere? If you've used \@xxivpt somewhere, you might instead
replace it with '24'.

It also looks like the version of Tufte-LaTeX that you're using is a
bit old. You might download the latest version from
<http://code.google.com/p/tufte-latex/>. You can just copy the
tufte-common.def, tufte-book.cls, and tufte-handout.cls files to the
same directory as your .lyx or .tex file and they should work okay.

the right place and it worked. it was obviously a problem with the old
version that is usually distributed (from ubuntu). now it works.

can i have the copies for tufte-common.def in a directory under .tex
in my home dir? i have changed other things (subsubsection)?

Both Tufte-LaTeX class files read local configuration
files. If, for example, you're using the handout class,
create a file called tufte-handout-local.tex. You can
put any custom code there.

thank you for the hint. in this case, i would have to copy the whole
of tufte-common as i want to include subsubsections, which are masked
out in the tufte-common.def file. i do not understand how i could undo
the mask (but my understanding of LaTex is VERY limited). for other
things, i will use your suggestion.

You can just copy the subsubsection code into the
tufte-handout-local.tex file. This has the same effect as uncommenting
it from the tufte-common.def file.
