You can bake this gingerbread in a variety of cake pans. My directions for varying pan sizes are in the recipe notes below. Whichever size pan you use, the trick to upside-down cakes is to let them cool for only 10-20 minutes before inverting over. Once flipped over, lift the baking pan straight up to reveal all those luscious pears. A topping is so good, it glistens!

This boldly spiced upside-down pear gingerbread cake combines your favorite holiday spices with juicy pears, brown sugar caramel sauce, and cool whipped cream. Serving warm brings out the flavors AND makes this a quick holiday dessert.

The Demogorgon eventually found Will inside Castle Byers and took him to the public library. Shortly after Will's capture, Hopper and Joyce entered the Upside Down via the Mothergate, retracing the blood-stained footsteps of the Demogorgon, and were eventually led to the library. There, they discovered Will attached to a vine extending down his throat; Hopper immediately removed and destroyed the vine, and with Joyce, resuscitated Will. The three then returned through the Mothergate and took Will to hospital.

While driving down Cherry Oak Drive, Billy Hargrove suddenly found himself attacked by an unseen force, causing him to crash his car. Billy left the vehicle to investigate, coming across the abandoned Steel Works nearby; suddenly, a giant tendril emerged out of nowhere and dragged Billy into the shadows. In the basement of the Steel Works, the rat-flesh creature pumped toxic material into Billy's face and infected his mind, converting him into an obedient servant. Billy hallucinated himself leaving the building, only to find himself in the Upside Down; he saw a number of shadowy figures appear in the distance, and tried to call out to them. One of the figures walked forward; Billy was shocked to realise he was looking at a mirror image of himself.

While Nancy witnessed Henry's memories at the lab, Brenner suddenly turned to her and addressed her by name. Realizing it was Vecna speaking to her, she ran out of the room and into the lab corridor, but got trapped down a dead-end with a barricaded door. Vecna slowly approached, telling her he now wished to show her the future. Suddenly, Nancy found herself bound to a chair, with Vecna standing before her. Instead of killing her, he instead told her to tell Eleven what she sees, before out-stretching his clawed left hand above her face; Nancy's mind was flooded with cataclysmic images of Hawkins being torn apart by four gates, and of a "giant creature with a gaping mouth" looming over the town. After Nancy started screaming in pain, Vecna finally let her go, releasing her from the trance.[14]

Mike, Lucas, and Dustin's theories on the Upside Down are primarily based on their knowledge from Dungeons & Dragons, calling the Upside Down the Vale of Shadows. At one point, Eleven, who appears to have instinctual knowledge of the Upside Down, flips their D&D game board upside-down, before placing Will's player piece on top along with the Demogorgon's. Mike eventually realizes that Eleven is essentially explaining that Will is trapped in an alternate realm hidden from sight but inherently connected with their own, just like the underside of the game board. This analogy later inspires the boys to refer to this realm as "the Upside Down". Dustin compares the Upside Down to the fictional "Vale of Shadows", of Dungeons & Dragons lore. Mike's notes on the Vale refer to it as "a dimension that is a dark reflection, or echo, of our world. It is a place of decay and death, a plane out of phase, a place of monsters. It is right next to you and you do not even see it".[17]

Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together into a bowl or onto a sheet of waxed paper and set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixture fitted with the whisk attachment (eh, I just used a handmixer with standard beaters) beat the eggs and sour cream together at medium speed until well blended. Add optional flavorings of your choice. Scrape down the bowl and add remaining melted butter (1/2 cup) and beat until combined. Add flour mixture and beat until smooth.

How is it that I never thought to make a cranberry upside down cake? I love the tartness of unsugared cranberries that have been mellowed a little by baking against a rich baked good. I live in Vermont, I think I will substitute maple syrup for the molasses.

I have always thought that any upside down cake was way too sweet. I love the cranberries and I think the cake looks great. I am thinking a bit of port and honey or apples and orange zest might be nice additions. It looks delicious.

I can testify that you are right when you say its as good a few days down the line. It is delicious hot from the pan and also great a couple of days later. The last slice was eaten today with coffee for breakfast.

Maida Heatter has a good cranberry upside down cake. And of course Laurie Colwin has one. Pam Anderson has a yellow cake that I really, really like in her Perfect Meals for Enertaining (or something like this) that she also uses for an upside down cake, if you are looking for more ideas.

Marion Cunningham has a ridiculously easy ,yummy, weeknight type , cranberry upside cake in the Fanny Farmer Baking Book..and it maintains a bright red look. It also takes about 10 minute to put together.

I used the cake from the Pineapple upside down cake with sparkling apple-cranberry juice in lieu of the pineapple juice, crown royal for the rum, about 3 cups of berries, and baked it for about 40 minutes in my cast iron skillet. Amazingly good and a dropdead gorgeous crimson color on top.

I loved this! Made it for my boyfriend and his family before Thanksgiving 2011. I went to Maui for the holiday, and snuck a few slices for the plane ride for me and my parents! Oops. :) Here is how it turned out: -upside-down-cake/.

I made this again today for a party and had to double the recipe. I neither had time to buy another cake pan nor bake each cake one at a time, so I baked it in a 913 nonstick pan. It seemed it would spill over but it held in there and was done at 50 minutes. After cooling, I turned it out onto my butcher block cutting board turned upside-down cranberry cake serving platter :). So glad I thought to use the board so as not to hide the beauty of the cake!!

It is the caramel. I let the butter melt, then added the sugar. By the time the sugar melts and starts bubbling, it starts to solidify too. And I pour it into the cake pan in which I am making the cake, while the caramel is still hot. And when I let it cool down it solidifies. Is that supposed to happen ? And today, when I made this, the caramel did not melt completely but stayed like thin solidified layer !!!

Soon we got hungry and asked Dad if we could stay for dinner. The outside deck had low tables and throw pillows for seating. The kitchen was run by a Thai chef, so we ordered pad Thai and ate it in 3 minutes. Like, I clearly remember scarfing that thing down. And MAN was it good.

To make this caramelized banana upside down cake, you first need to make the caramel topping. Simply melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan, and then spread it evenly onto the bottom of the cake pan. Cut four bananas lengthwise and lay them on top of the caramel layer. Let all that yumminess hang out on the counter while you prep the cake batter.

1) The upside-down fire will take longer to produce large flames, and it might not look like much for about 20 minutes. Be patient. The goal is to create embers that then fall to the layer below, which is why there cannot by any spaces between logs.

That every fiber is converted into heat might be deceptive with upside down fires I think, I agree that this type of fire would make it burn more of it, but that this ash might as well be carried of and up with the hot air.

We, being smart aleck kids, decided to make a joke out of it. We piled the wood in a similar fashion to your upside down fire. We layered the big pieces of wood in a criss cross fashion as kind of a platform and then on the very top, we built a tiny little teepee fire. we were snickering the whole time. The platform part was very similar to yours. But slightly different. There were no spaces between logs at the bottom, then every other layer had an empty box. Similar to a hi-rise apartment. Hey, we were city kids. We lit the tiny little teepee fire, snickering in anticipation for the reaction following the return of the group.

Awesome info as always Tim! Its cold, windy and snowing like crazy here on Long Island and here I am in front of my upside down fire drinking an ice cold corona eating chips and salsa with my kids! Does it get any more enjoyable? LOL

This one is a bit more involved than it first seems. At the risk of inciting violence, this is not really wrong, in a purely technical sense. Whether text is "upside down" or "backwards" is all dependent on the view. For instance, if I put text on a sketch on each of the origin planes, it looks like this:

This is a good question. The answer is that "look at" for a sketch (or any object, for that matter), does a "minimum rotation" to get to the view. It doesn't always guarantee that you view the sketch along its sketch normal, and with X in the positive direction to the right, and Y in the positive direction upward. We could do that, but the view transition would be jarring in a lot of cases. And, in 90% of the sketches which do not have text, it doesn't matter. There is no backwards or upside-down for a rectangle

If I choose to create the sketch on the Front surface of the body, the text will be right side up. If I choose the Top surface of the body to put the text, the text is upside down. I didn't try the other surfaces, but I guess it's easier to figure out which end is up in some cases as compared to others.
