Just Dance is a motion-based dance video game for multiple players, with each game including a collection of classic and modern songs each with its own dance choreographies. During each song, players mirror a dance performed by dancers on the screen, following moves that appear as pictorials on the bottom right corner of the screen, and are awarded for their accuracy. Additionally, there are gold moves in which players must strike a pose or complete the hardest move in the dance in order to earn bonus points. Players are given ranks based on how well they do. Depending on the game and system it is played on, the game can be played with either motion controllers or camera devices (such as the Wii Remote and Kinect), or using an app downloaded on a smart device. The game can be played by up to six players at once on eighth- and ninth-generation consoles, as well as the PC version of Just Dance 2017 and the Stadia version of Just Dance 2020, Just Dance 2021, and Just Dance 2022, with support for a gamepad and a keyboard used to navigate the menus. This excludes Dance Crew routines for Kinect users for the Xbox One version, as well as Wii Remote users for the Wii U version, and PlayStation Move users for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions, which are limited to four players. Seventh-generation consoles and the Wii U versions of Just Dance 4 to Just Dance 2015 and the Wii U version of Just Dance 2019 are also limited to four players.
On 14 January 2019, Deadline reported that Screen Gems has acquired motion picture rights to Just Dance with Jason Altman and Margaret Boykin from Ubisoft Film & Television set to produce alongside Jodi Hildebrand and Will Gluck of Olive Bridge Entertainment.[62] In January 2020, it was reported that Molly Prather, Amelie Gillette, Brian Gatewood, and Alessandro Tanaka wrote the script for the film.[63] In January 2023, Gluck was reported to be re-writing the script alongside A.C. Bradley.[64]

The game itself says I burned about 106 calories (based on the session I just had) but my fitbit is clocking me down at around 800 calories. The difference being that the game bases calories burned off of a pre-set body weight and type and I'm about 280lbs right now.
I think it's good, both to mix it up and keep your motiviation fresh. AND having done lots of the JD 1-4 and 2015 with the kids, can really work your shoulders, balance and core by doing other things beyond just walking and counting your steps.
Not too sure about comparing the total calories or steps taken computed between the game and the fitbit. You should burn more as doing the JD you're using your whole body moreso than even a power walk. You're right though that it will get your heart rate going and maybe PUSH you harder than you might push yourself with just fitness walking. The JD routines give you someone to workout with and keep up with!

I decide that, no, there have been too many lows over the decades for this to qualify as the absolute lowest. These are all jolly nice people and we're simulating 'having fun.' It's not so bad. But then I am invited to dance along to the music of a band of warbling schoolboys calling themselves One Direction and finally I am forced to admit that I have hit rock bottom.

As I dance to One Direction's "Kiss You," I notice that my side-steps, arm-swings and saucy body-swerves are not entirely keeping up with those of my co-dancers. The producer, the PR reps and certainly the dancers are doing it right, and on the screen, above their slender silhouettes, statistics register a rapid accumulation of points, while my porky, heaving shadow accrues progress like a schoolroom clock.
As we trip the light fantastic, we cross one another's paths, do goofy little moves with each other. The Kinect watches. It does not miss a beat. On screen there are still six individual avatars and they are all doing the same things that we are doing.
This is a party game in which as few people as possible are required to sit on couches awaiting their turn because as many as possible are on the floor. And in the reality of parties, doing something that everyone else is doing, like dancing or throwing up or stealing the crockery, is always easier than doing anything that will make you stand out.
