Hello, I have been looking at list mgmt software and I think your is
on the right track, however there are a couple of features I think
would be nice to have.
1. the ability to add tags or categories to headings, this way I can
easily segment work vs personal projects, currently i have to tag all
the tasks in the heading with a .work or .personal tag, which is easy
enough to do since I can multi select, but it is just an extra step to
remember. A header tag would just be inherited by the tasks in the
header.
2. I really like the way you handle copy and past of tasks and the ctrl
+win+T window. I don't like the way that I can't save as, backup my
data or work with multiple dbs. So my idea here is to create an import
and export that works sort of like the quick add, but is a bit more
advanced to handle all data.
When i copy all tasks it does almost what I think export should do.
basically a heading should end with a :(colon) like you already do and
tasks should have more information added in some kind of special
delimiters, I haven't really thought it out too much, but this would
give the ability to export manage in textpad or anywhere and re-
import.
here is kind of what i was thinking:
Heading:
this is a task with tags and end date {@home, @computer} [,3/3/2010]
(action)
this another task without tags but a start date [5/1/2010] (waiting
for)
additionally this syntax (not this one, but a better thought out one)
could be echoed throughout the program. so ctrl+N when you add a task
if you type for example {{ (two open curly brackets) then the UI
could know you wanted to enter tags. two [[ would mean date and
(( could mean status.
The double type thing is a feature i saw in uTodo when adding tasks
and one I really like, their program is free and is quite close in
features to tudumo.
I haven't thought out all the details like how multi-line notes would
work, but I think there is something to this, and i think it is worth
considering.
3. Spell check, no brainier here, even if it was a 3rd party add-on it
would be better than nothing
4. Tools > Quick Add, this feature is hard to find, the hotkey is not
even in the help file.
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.
Gabe
Smarter quick-add is something I've been working on, so assume it'll
get better than it is! I'm trying to avoid too much extra 'stuff' in
terms of markup, though.
Regards,
Richard
