From February 24th-27th students are encouraged to bring 1, 2 or 3 gently used books that you are willing to part with and think a classmate in your grade would enjoy! Maybe it is a book that has already been read and is ready for a new home or perhaps it’s one you picked up from a Little Free Library around town. For students in the French program, we encourage you to swap a French book that you are ready to pass along to another reader.
Books will be collected in classes, then organized and distributed on Friday, February 28 as our mobile book swap cart visits each classroom. Every student will select a new book to bring home with them, regardless of whether or not they donated a book.

Join the Milton Public Library on March 6th for an evening with award-winning, bestselling children's author Grace Lin, who will give a presentation on How a Book Is Made.
This event is free and open to the public, and will take place at Pierce Middle School! Doors open at 5:30 PM, and the author will give a talk at 6:00 PM, followed by a book signing.
Last year, the Tucker Garden Club planted the Ugly Vegetable bed, and got a grant to make a Story Walk for her book in the Tucker Garden. It would be so great to meet her and share with her the impact her book is having on our Tucker Tigers!!
Registration is encouraged.

Before Grace Lin was an award-winning and NY Times bestselling author/illustrator of picturebooks, early readers and middle grade novels, she was the only Asian girl (except for her sisters) going to her elementary school in Upstate NY.
That experience, good and bad, has influenced her books—including her Newbery Honor WHERE THE MOUNTAIN MEETS THE MOON, her Geisel Honor LING & TING, her National Book Finalist WHEN THE SEA TURNED TO SILVER and her Caldecott Honor A BIG MOONCAKE FOR LITTLE STAR. But, it also causes Grace to persevere for diversity as an occasional New England Public Radio commentator and when she gave her TEDx talk “The Windows and Mirrors of Your Child’s Bookshelf,” as well as her PBSNewHour video essay “What to do when you realize classic books from your childhood are racist?.”
In 2016, Grace’s art was displayed at the White House and Grace, herself, was recognized by President Obama’s office as a Champion of Change for Asian American and Pacific Islander Art and Storytelling. In 2022, Grace was awarded the Children’s Literature Legacy Award from the American Library Association. Grace is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and lives in Northampton, MA with her husband, daughter and a fluctuating amount of chickens.

Celebrate Black History Month
The City of Boston has a rich history and countless landmarks that tell important stories about our community’s past. The Greenway is honored to be caretakers of a very important historical space: the land where the first-known Black woman to own a home in Boston lived.
This Black History Month, The Greenway invites you to visit Going to Ground by artist LaRissa Rogers, found in the North End area of The Greenway. This work engages with the site-specific history of Zipporah Potter Atkins, the first-known Black woman to own a home in Boston in 1670. Potter Atkins’ house rested on land now cared for by The Greenway at Cross and Hanover Streets in Boston’s North End.
