I am having the exact same problem as the original author is (Fred)
I recently upgraded my os to windows 10 Pro on my Surface Pro 2. And yes, I have followed the outlined instructions here and for surface pro on completely removing the drivers for clean install. The only difference is when i lose monitor connection (through freezing) the Ethernet connection drops there after, usb connection is still fully functional.
Targus has validated the Synaptics DisplayLink version 11.0M0 software and drivers for all DisplayLink-based Targus Universal and Hybrid Docking Station models DOCK1XX, DOCK3XX, DOCK5XX, and DOCK7XX for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
The 11.0M0 release is available from Targus Driver Support and should be available from Windows Update soon after this post. Enterprise customers may also download the corporate version INF/MSI files from the associated targus.com product pages through the Driver tab at this portal.
Version 11.1M0 has been put through extensive validation with all applicable Targus Utilities, but not every Targus Utility has been validated with every Targus universal docking station on every Windows 10 or 11 build or platform.
Dell Technologies recommends resetting the docking station, installing the latest Windows Updates, and updating the drivers for the computer and the docking station when troubleshooting a docking station problem.
So I downloaded drivers for the docking station from this link -support/product/dell-universal-dock-d6000/drivers . So I extract the exe to the directory I keep the drivers organized in under windows 10\Dell inc\latitude 5285. Upon investigation, these are primarily display drivers for the docking station. So upon further research I find the ethernet driver for the docking station at this link: =3fkmw
I extract this package to both the windows 10\dell inc\latitude 5285 folder AND to the WinPE\dell inc\Latitude 5285 folder. I add the drivers in both folders on the deployment workbench. Update the deployment Share, create a bootable usb drive out of the iso image.
At this point, I cancel the deployment, and the tablet logs me into windows 10 as a local admin. Just to be thorough, I copy the docking station driver and NIC driver to a flash drive, plug it into the laptop and install the drivers without manually extracting the packages. They install and I have a network connection.
So I copy the drivers that installed from c:\Program Files (x86)\realtek\realtek USB Ethernet Controller All-in-One Windows Driver" and pasted them to the usb. Then I copied the drivers from the flash drive to both the WinPE and the windows 10 driver directory on the network. Then I uploaded them to the deployment work bench in both areas.
On my PXE bootstrap.ini file, I include the deploy root, which is my MDT sever. On my USB, I had changed to back to default. This should stop the deployment from running from the MDT server and run the deployment locally from the USB drive
You may also want to edit your custom settings INI to stop it from joining the domain automatically or connecting to a log server. Basically, remove any rules that would require it to connect to the network.

When updating the drivers for the device "Synaptics SMBus TouchPad" in device manager, I keep on getting the error that this update requires an "interactive windows station." I am using the windows 10 insider preview build 10162.
But beyond that, there's more. Even if the permissions on these 3 directories are correct, Windows then tries to hardlink the dll from the DriverStore\FileStore directly into the C:\Windows\system32 directory, and that's where the issue arises. It can be diagnosed by examining the - C:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log : basically the lines with exclamation signs mean errors. You should also check the part when the line "Drp can't overwrite protected file." appears: that's where real issue lies. For me the solution was to manually copy these problematic files: luckily, C:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log contains full source and target file information. Right after that the installation succeeded.
Downloaded the 28.3 Ethernet driver package with version 1.1.4.42 drivers from Intel to setup a I226-V NiC on an up to date Windows 10 Pro install and it complained about the driver and failed to start showing an error. Downloaded 1.1.4.42 drivers from station-driver and they properly installed and the card works. While having the same version the driver dates are a month earlier on the station-drivers files. There appears to be an issue with the NDIS68 drivers in the 28.3 x64 package. Neither running the exe or manual install works.
Sure, it's Error code 39. Running the package exe installs successfully with no errors but the device shows this error. I tried a manual install of the NDIS68 folder for Pro2500 to get the screen shots. Intel1-3 cover the errored Driver, Intel 4 is the working station-driver driver with the same version. I'm running this on an old Gigabyte P55 with Windows 10 Pro fully updated.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" with Monterey. Have two docking stations connected. If I boot Windows with them disconnected and then plug them in once Windows has loaded I have zero problems with the drivers. If reboot the machine and keep them connected to the USB-C ports both of the docking stations have failed drivers. Confused? The docks work perfect on the Mac side so I know they are working. Looking for ideas! Thanks...
