I think this deserves a prominent place on the TS and other websites and literature or other media.
This is particularly so because of its cross party foundation.

Thanks for the email, Dave.  It's about time the Gov did something on energy rationing.  But the  All Party Committee on Peak Oil have been pushing this for years with no success. David Drew, our ex MP, was on the committee, and I corresponded with him about it. The impression I have of the new MP is that he wont be much interested - but perhaps I am being unfair. Neil Carmichael is on the Environmental Audit Committee, so he should be taking an interest in all energy matters.

Cheers

It is very interesting - thanks Dave -

it would be good to have an energy group meeting with this as a topic....rationing, cards & how we have coped with the power cuts this winter

This would be especially interesting for those of us who can remember the 3 day week
&/ or have been affected by the power cuts in this area

Hi Sue,

A number of things are holding us back from having meetings at the moment:
1) we don't have a coordinator (no one has volunteered), and no one has organised any meetings
2) we don't have a place to meet - public venues mostly cost money, the pub doesn't seem to be everyone's cup of tea, as it were

When we talked about this on the Beacon wood management course, I think we were moving towards identifying a need for different types of meeting:
1) a get together to share - topics like energy rationing would be interesting to keep such a meeting focussed
2) a "speaker" meeting, where someone with particular expertise engages with us and provides a space for learning and investigating - the brewery visit is an example of this
3) project meetings, where we choose a project to work on, and those who want to work on it get together to review progress and plan next steps - we did this previously with the community wind turbine idea, but it has died because none of us knows a landowner who could be approached, or had the time to go find one - and without a potential site, there's not a lot else we can do.

Feel free to organise one or more meetings!  For the moment, I think that's the best way forward for us, until we have a coordinator again.  And I would say the same to all - if you're going to be somewhere and feel like inviting energy group members, why not announce your plans and see if you can get some people together?

All the best,
Julia
