Hi everyone,
We had a council meeting last night, focussing on preparation for the
AGM on Saturday (2-4pm, please come, it's in the Arts Space in central
Stroud, just a few steps away from the farmers market, Bar 9, the town
council etc, I'll be there and it would be good to see you all again
and meet those of you who are here but I haven't met).
We had a speaker from Five Valleys Energy, which is setting up as a
coop of sorts. Here's an article about them:
http://www.southwestbusiness.co.uk/utilities/green-energy-effort/article-2353993-detail/article.html.
They are doing something similar to what we had in mind for a
community owned wind turbine. The difference is they've managed the
next step: finding sites. They are planning a mix of wind and solar,
and thinking about other technologies eventually as well. It all
sounds very interesting, so we're planning to invite them to a wider
meeting, and I proposed the Energy Group should host. Liz is going to
help me organise it but if any of you wants to pitch in please speak
up, either here or emailing me at
ene...@transitionstroud.org.
I'm conscious that we have ground to a halt over the summer - my
apologies for not getting meetings organised (not that I ever
volunteered to be coordinator - how did this happen?). Anyway I would
like to plan meetings in future so we can start doing things again.
My sense is that meeting in Bar 9, while pleasant in some ways, has
not been ideal, so if anyone can suggest a free venue please do so.
Also, if you want to attend a meeting and have a view on when it
should be, please do speak up.
Finally, I spoke briefly to Helen about having a Facebook page - she
thought this was a good idea for getting wider participation. Does
anyone object?
All the best,
Julia
