Hi all

Three things:

1.       Any recommendations for best way to get ideally organic and not peat based compost or soil or manure for my new garden project- I need about 8 big bags I think

2.       Do folks know how to find out who owns land- you’d think land registry right – but I couldn’t figure it out for land rather than actual buildings

3.       Anyone want to think with me / advise about the place a walk might go that took in some private land- ideally royal, for a deliberate trespass re land justice

Thankyou stroud hive mind!

On the last - perhaps the Bathurst Estate near Ciren. Also interesting -
as sold of other farmland for massive housebuilding 3000! - was it
affordable? I don't really know

The Bisley Community Composting Scheme is a fab place to get soil. See website here: http://www.bisleycommunitycompostscheme.org.uk/
It costs £25 a year to join and you can get as much compost as you want. They also sell seived compost already bagged up.

Jade Bashford may be able to help re finding out who owns land.

Re trespassing - Highgrove? Though it might be like fort knox.

Hi Gail,

1. I would suggest using fungusloci/coffee mushroom compost for at least part of you mix! local product, no peat, and unofficially OKed by soil association regs. I can deliver.. Ideally mixed with other stuff - Bisley Community compost is great as well.

2. Have you seen these sites Who Owns England http://map.whoownsengland.org/ and this tool Land explorer https://landexplorer.uk/ which I just came across today. I don’t know if they will provide all answers as apparently is very difficult to find out who owns what even if you pay the land registry for a search. They have though released info on land owned by off shore companies and trusts which are mapped on Who owns England. Even so I think plotting actual boundaries is still impossible.

3. Plenty of options round here! Barthhurst estate very nice to walk and even though they allow walkers if you do it before 9 or after 5pm armed game keepers are likely to have a go at you!

Hi Gail
Good to hear from you! I can endorse Bisley Community Composting scheme compost. Also there is a firm in Tetbury called Melcourt who look like they do good stuff and possibly in bulk but I’ve not used them. https://www.melcourt.co.uk. Does anyone have any experience?

Best

Simon
