Dear all
Â
Leaflet attached. Its A4 and folds into 3. It needs to be printed both sides. The section with the heading TRANSITION TOWNS is the first section to view.
Â
I don’t have a lot of time to faff around with this. If anyone has any major objections/amendments, let me know ASAP. I’ve no doubt forgotten something important! Going to CAT Sunday am, back Wednesday am.

- Delete 'Town' in Transition Town Stroud in a couple of places
- words like 'Energy Descent Pathway' I think are too much - even
'incremental', 'mitigated' and 'resilience' can be difficult for some
to read quick - and socio-economic could become social and economic -
need to keep language v simple
- Does the Core Group email link need to be so long?
- Under list of groups maybe a note saying 'More groups planned'
- Poss take out "It's about' and have that as a heading? Also if poss
keep those to one page?

I have arranged with Stroud Valleys Project to take all their available
display boards but I don't know when to pick them up or where to take them.
Can we have the display on the foreground to the Sub Rooms is weather
permits? If others want a display board can they let me know; otherwise I
won't bother to pick up more than those I need for Lifestyles and
Livelihoods and Textiles.

We do need a short meeting to set out the meetings needs for people, chairs,
tables and boards etc.
I have an estate car which may be useful for the boards.
Greg
The down side is that the displays will need to be a flat as possible
and against the wall - display boards or blu tack stuff to the wall. Try
to avoid tables unless absolutely necessary (eg. if you need one or two
to put food on). We'll probably loose 2 rows of chairs, that's 50 seats
so capacity will be 350... if we get more folks on the night we'll have
to be flexible and creative (that's what we're all about isn't it?)
We'll need to clear more rows of chairs quickly at the end of the talk
to make a bigger space near the back.
By being at the back of the main hall in the Subs we'll be there (near
the door) to greet people at the beginning and to talk to them again at
the end before they escape into the night. We'll sort some badges for
transitioners to identify ourselves amongst the throng.
Main reasons for dropping the separate hall for displays is we don't
have enough people to split between two venues and it'll very very hard
at the end of the meeting trying to get people out and across the
forecourt and into the other building - you could spend ages setting up,
miss half the talk and get only a handful of people to talk to in the
end. We'd have a situation where we were all trying to be in two places
at once. So we're trading a bit of extra chaos and a few seats for more
chance of useful interaction with the crowds.
and I guess things will go smoother if we can meet to go over stuff -
someone brave enough to suggest time and place (there's no way we're
going to find a slot everyone can make over the bank holiday weekend) so
it'll just have to be those that can do it.
peace - Dave

I just wanted to say that I am really impressed with the way that everyone
has thrown their energy and passion into Transition Stroud.
When I held the first gathering back in November last year, I never imagined
that a concept as scary (and inconvenient) as Peak Oil (and all that this
implies) would summon such an enormous amount of positive energy and
enthusiasm. The way in which people have pulled together and formed
numerous groups and held meeting after meeting has renewed my faith in
humanity. It is very reassuring that, bubbling away beneath the surface of
all that makes us discontent and fearful, that people have an enormous
amount of time, energy and enthusiasm for an alternative pathway. Whilst
politicians and economists offer more and more of the same old dictum -
growth, material consumption, money, money, money - it is truly inspiring to
go to bed at night knowing that people - ordinary people like us - just
aren't buying this shit any more and want different ways of doping things.
I thank you all for your input and enthusiasm.
For my own part, I am feeling a little burnt out - hence the escape to Wales
with those I love the most, for a few days of peace and contemplation.
Well done, all
DaveJ
