John F. Kennedy High School is located in Richmond and serves a student population of 900. All students at Kennedy take 8 classes on a rotating block schedule, which allows ample room for students to explore college and career electives such as welding, screenprinting, woodshop, Information Technology, music, and more. This room in students' schedule also allows for credit recovery for our students who have missed a year or more of schooling due to immigrating, family situations, or instances of trauma. Sixty-five percent of the student population are Latinx, thirty percent are Black, forty percent are English Learners, twenty-five percent are Newcomer students, and ninety-five percent qualify for free and reduced-price lunch (which means that all students at our school receive free lunch). Kennedy has a robust school culture with sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities, and we are a full Community School, with a community health clinic and a swim center.
Beyond all of these pieces, my favorite part of working at Kennedy is that it is a place where students feel held and where teachers are focused on students’ success. We are undergoing some big work in increasing the college readiness of our students, and we look forward to seeing if you would be a good fit in joining us in this work!
