My name is Jesse Bedayn, and I'm a journalist for The San Jose Mercury News, CalMatters, and a Report for America corp member. Report for America is a national service program that places journalists into newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities – for me, that's wealth inequality in the Bay Area. 

As a Report for America corps member, I'll do a volunteer project outside my newsrooms for two hours a week related to youth journalism/media. The project is meant to put professional journalists, the corps members, in positions to support young people's media literacy and amplify their voices in the community. Previous corps members have helped reboot a student publication, started a new one, given short seminars on investigative reporting every week, or workshops for an existing student newspaper.
