Recently we have decided to place a three-letter abbreviation of the
line at the end of a different line to denote that the train continues
to that destination.

For example:

If a train leaves DOY heading towards MAL at the bottom of the DOY
schedule of each train it will say MAL or it won't say anything if
that train doesn't in fact continue.

So it would look like this:

8:45 8:50 9:55
9:50 9:55 10:05
MAL --- MAL

Does anyone have any ideas at all on how this can be accomplished or
where I should look?

Hi Bryan,

You might look at the InterliningNote config to help accomplish this
(but I'm thinking you might need to customize the Freemarker templates
to place your line abbrv., which could sit in the footnote symbol, on
the column where you'd like it to reside).

On this schedule, there's an InterliningNote in action:
http://trimet.org/schedules/w/t1200_0.htm#footnotes

Here are the parameters to this InterliningNote:
TriMet 200 Outbound * CONTINUES 100 Outbound 2 8344 10 B
At Rose Quarter, this train turns into a Blue Line train heading east,
terminating at Ruby Junction/E 197th Ave Station. 30

Or in other words:
When creating the timetable for line 200/Outbound, look at the trips
for line 100/Outbound that hit stop 8344. If those line 100 trips
hitting stop 8344 have the same block number (e.g., same vehicle) as a
trip in the line 200 data, and the times are within 10 minutes of the
ending time in a given line 200 trip, then mark that line 200 trip
with a 'B' footnote.

Note that the demo site has a contrived InterliningNote that you're
welcome to experiment with:

http://maps5.trimet.org/ttpub/timetable.config?route=Amtrak+Cascades---1&dir=Outbound

Take care,
Frank
