Youcan absolutely have a STRONG BACK as you steel yourself for the day, your guard up against those waves that come out of nowhere. You can allow strength to carry you through some of the moments when you are numb and lack awareness. You can even feel a sense of armor on your back as you stand at the foot of a hospital bed, desperately hoping for more time, struggling to breathe yet needing to be strong for those whose loss is even greater. My strength allowed me to be at the gym, needing that outlet desperately, yet on the brink of tears barely held back, spilling over with a kind word from my coach. A strong back gives us support as we move through each day, a moment at a time.
A SOFT FRONT is critical to prevent the grief from breeding resentment and bitterness. A soft front is what allowed the grief to move through me as I held my best friend and cried with her. A soft front let me stay feeling, without locking myself away or attempting to hide from the pain as I have done in the past. A soft front allowed me to stay present with my clients and keep my heart open to them, all while feeling all the feelings of the moment. Softness lets love win. Softness allows us to catch our breath, even when that means allowing another wave to overtake us. Softness is what gives us a way to stay connected to all that is good.
So I hope you all have found this encouraging. Embrace these parts of you and let them all serve you more fully! I truly believe that this triad gives us the opportunity to live and feel life more fully, to be more healed, more whole as we walk our journey (or kneel, skip or run, depending on which part of you is leading)!
Spring of 2023 marked the completion of the 100 acre facility and the last structure was finished. There is no debt on the facility which helps secure the future of this important and necessary mission.
We are a wildlife rehabilitation facility. Our mission is not for personal gain, but to work as an instrument of compassion and provide a haven for those who have no person to claim responsibility. We are proud of the way we spend our time on this Earth, and of the results of our labor, for we do it not for the recognition or the rewards of mankind, but for the nurturing of our own spirit as well as those who find their way into our hands. We will not boast of our skills, but seek pride as the proof of our talent runs again free and whole into the wood. It is at that moment that God smiles upon us and says;
We do not allow visitors as we operate as a hospital and infant care center for wildlife, who require privacy and quiet to relax and eat, heal and grow. We display our work daily on our Facebook page. Please follow us to keep up to date on all our charges.
Upon our arrival via dirt sand roads, we found ourselves exploring a small compound with two cabins, a hot tub, a pool, and a few other smaller structures. It was beautifully desolate, and, at least to this Northeasterner, felt like another planet.
We milked the experience for everything it was worth, with full hearts and an understanding that the escape room Airbnb is not only possible, but another vibrant branch of the live gaming world that we love so much.
We drove out to a large property in the desert with 2 cabins, a hot tub, a pool, and a few other structures. There were 2 functional living spaces, each with accommodations for 4 people, a bathroom, kitchen, and living room. Each cabin had its own aesthetic. They both felt like spaces that the Hart family had lived in, but we never felt like we were intruding.
However, the gameplay made Wild Heart Ranch special. There was an escape room hidden on the property, not in the form of a separate room, so to speak, but rather as a mystery to uncover and solve by traversing the different living spaces and the area around them. It would be hard to miss the trailheads.
Bren says that, learning to be vulnerable (soft front): express your true feelings, reveal weakness, acknowledge need, consider the possibility you might be wrong, empathize, learn how to apologize is counterbalanced by learning to stand up for yourself or others or for things you believe in, even if it means losing your standing in the group (strong back)
We all develop losses, hurts, and failures in the wilderness. We all develop enduring limps in the wilderness. And, at the end of the day, we enter true belonging, with all the bruises and scars we earned along the way.
Six days of incredible physical, emotional, and spiritual stress stretched me past my limits and into new territory. Out the other side, my feet had nerve damage, my toes were munted into ugly appendages, and it took a few weeks before I stopped having flashbacks to endless footsteps.
For me, the wild is where I find the courage to lay aside embarrassment, a sense of shame, and feelings of inadequacy. The wild is where I stand up for what I believe, decide to be who I am and embrace it.
