Film Night – Requiem for Detroit
Winslow Transition Town group would like to invite you to see the showing of Requiem for Detroit on Wednesday 5th February at 7.30pm in The Bell Function Room in Winslow. There will be a discussion after the film on projects ideas for the Transition Town for 2014. If you live in the area, this would be a great opportunity to find out about the group and perhaps share some of the ideas that you have!
Don’t forget you can borrow resources for your projects, such as the Smart House, Light bulb library and insulation library. Or why not book to borrow the thermal cameras for a project for Autumn / Winter 2014/15. We will also have some OWL’s to lend out soon!
You can watch a trailer of the film using this link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-c2NVJ1Sis.
Bin Busting Challenge
Energy Champion, Cathy Davidoff has alerted us to an interesting 4 week Bin Busting Challenge set up by The Rubbish Diet!
The Rubbish Diet claim to be the UK’s only dedicated Slimming Club for Bins and offer to help you make savings by reducing your waste.
“The Rubbish Diet’s creator, Karen Cannard saved herself more than £1250 a year by cutting out waste. She started by cutting out food waste, which costs the average family in the UK £720 a year. The rest came from cutting out the disposables: switching from floor wipes to reusable microfibre cloths, refilling water bottles instead of buying new, using a reusable travel cup for coffee on the move.”
I have signed up to their challenge and have received the first of their 4 emails with hints and tips! This one asks me to record my baseline – how much rubbish do I produce now (1 x bin ½ a bin 1/3 bin etc) and to identify what my top 5 bin fillers are. I have never surveyed my own rubbish before, so it could be an eye-opening challenge!
If any of you are interested in taking a look please go to the Rubbish Diet web site. Please let me know if you sign up, how you get on with the challenge!
Kind regards to all, and please keep sending me your updates and ideas for sharing with the group!
