Thank you Jen! great notes.
I have to say, my eyes got all teary when I read my card last night. Thank you all for being so thoughtful and appreciative. It's been my pleasure to get to know everyone and to work together for trails. I'm excited about fulfilling at least some of the dreams we expressed last night. We WILL get more folks involved and everything's going to be just fine.
Now all we need is for the winds to die down so folks can enjoy the trails. I did my 19 mile RT ride today and the wind was brutal!

Hi you wonderful, hard-working folks:

Some comments:
  • Shirts awesome! Didn’t sell many thought.
Shirts are best as long term sales strategies. We gave up on making money on event shirts long ago.
  • Get the biggest local band that will draw and only ONE (loose momentum at band switch)
  • Have a little music background during food (CDs? Instrumental band?)
  • End earlier, not a party late place… end at 11pm
Right, acoustic music during dinner & one super-popular band. Both your headliner bands were excellent, but neither has a HUGE following.

I totally disagree with shutting down an hour before you need to. Midnight is NOT late for a party. What's the point, getting done earlier? If so, it is imperative to move the crowd out ASAP upon ending. "We need to clean up, and cannot do a proper job until everyone is gone." Close the bar 20 minutes before end time. Explain to folks that permits state the end time, and it is crucial to your ABC license and dance permit.
  • Superb: charge a little more, do the same thing re: donations
Yes, food was superb, and we undercharged for it for sure. But charging more at the door because of food doesn't work either, because some people come late after food is over. You could charge two prices, the higher price for early arrival with food included, and a dance-only price which would include food only if it happens to be left over. And if the event is as well attended as intended, there would be no leftover food.
