Dear Dr. Hargrove,

My name is Stephen Blaskowski and I am a Graduate Student in Molecular Engineering and Oceanography at the University of Washington. This year, a group of students, staff and faculty are holding a free, virtual session to demystify the myths and misconceptions of Graduate School in STEM.

The session is meant for both students who are already interested in applying and for those who may have never considered graduate school, as well as students who are trying to determine if graduate school is right for them. The session will be a brief presentation followed by an hour of Q&A with panelists who represent a variety of experiences and backgrounds.

The panel includes:

  • Bonni Leeds (community college graduate, graduate student in Molecular Engineering)

  • Sam Burden (Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, first-generation)

  • Ben Nguyen (international student who attended college in the US, graduate student in Molecular Engineering)

  • Cholpisit Kiattisewee  (international student who attended college overseas, graduate student in Molecular Engineering)

  • Stephanie Swanson (Director of Academic Services in Electrical & Computer Engineering, first-generation, woman of color)

  • Marjorie Olmstead (Professor of Physics, involved in DEI efforts)

  • Trey Pichon (Ph.D. student who left industry to return to grad school)

We would greatly appreciate it if you would please share this session with your students in whatever manner you see fit.
