There is so much going on in the Indian Startup Landscape - lots of
pioneers and selfless initiatives being spawned in an effort to make
the lives of startup entrepreneurs easier - not easy, God forbid, but
a bit easier for sure. Most of the time, the sad bit is that, it takes
such an effort to build up the momentum to bring them all together,
but after the event is over, *poof* just about everything disappears
into thin air. The conversations, collaborations, those sparkling of
ideas all pretty much go into the attic till they meet next time. We
are literally going from events to events (and too much of those are
also not a good thing).
That was one of the driving forces of thought as to why The Startup
Centre has to come into existence. A space that can sustain that
energy, accelerate the efforts done by several others, and in
aggregating and sustaining it. we hope that we start reaching some of
the early successes as an ecosystem, was the idea.
We are happy to say that we have found our first home. We will be
based out of Alsa Mall in Egmore Chennai, in a pretty hip looking 2500
sq feet office. The space will serve as a hub - hosting events,
workshops, and also as a space for founding teams to work out of. We
will go live from May 2011- but will host an event or two in the
meantime. The first of which is the weekend prototyping event called
In50hrs. There are several folks who have an idea and the gulf between
the idea to a working prototype is a big one, and we want to help
folks cross that. I will come back to you with more details on that,
soon. The dates are on 25th - 27th March, so save the dates to be in
Chennai, if you have an idea which is itching you enough to leave you
restless. (We will also have an accelerator program, which will launch
sometime later this year with support given to select startups)
A special thanks goes out to VC Karthik of Buzzworks, who has been the
key reason behind the first home of TSC. It was a bit of serendipity,
and a lot of good faith in the work that we are aiming to do for the
startup community. And that deserves a salute.
The first, rather simple and elegant iteration of our website is up -
so that one doesn't go pondering over the meaning of the child covered
in colors and can get a better clarity on what we are going to promise
and deliver. Vistt us as

Thanks again for all your support, and I look forward to interacting
with you all in the days to come.
As we say, may the Startups win!
