-- OVERVIEW

Most months, these volunteering announcements will call your attention to a few volunteer roles which are either new, or especially key for us at that point in time.  Please take a moment to consider whether you know anyone who might be interested in these and pass the word on.  Interested parties can inquire further by e-mailing volun...@seasteading.org.

As always, a complete list of all of our open volunteer positions can be found here on the TSI wiki.

-- NEW PAID DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR POSITION

We're pleased to announce that we have a new, paid position available for a Development Director.

The Development Director will be primarily responsible for growing membership and obtaining funding for TSI through a combination of grant-writing, outreach, PR and donor development. Working in conjunction with the Executive Director and the Board, they will develop fundraising goals, schedule and plan events, identify grant possibilities and apply. In order to develop a steady base of volunteers and donors, the DD will create and maintain a membership program, and work with the Volunteer Coordinator to make sure that volunteers are rewarded and recognized for their work.  Should have some experience w/ non-profit development and grant writing.

While not technically a volunteer role, this is a key position for our future growth, and we'd appreciate your help connecting us with qualified individuals.  More information about the role is available here.

Thanks to Liz Lacy for helping us create the role definition.

-- BAY AREA SOCIALS COORDINATOR

Those of you who have been to our socials in the Bay Area know that they're a great, fun way to connect with other members of the seasteading community and stay up-to-date about what's happening with the movement.  Having a volunteer to organize these would be extremely helpful, as it would free us up to focus on other high-priority tasks.

The coordinator would be responsible for finding hosts/venues, handling publicity, driving attendance, obtaining or arranging for refreshments, coordinating with TSI colleagues to organize agendas, and so on.

-- WEEKLY RESEARCH PROGRAM MODERATORS

We've just established a new Weekly Research Program which uses our web forums to organize seasteading community members to do effective research on seasteading-related topics. Each week, a volunteer moderator will select a research topic (we have a list of several, or you can come up with your own), facilitate a discussion, and do a wiki writeup of the results.

We're looking for people to sign up to be moderators.  You can do so in the "Proposed" section of the program's wiki page

-- SF BAY AREA WORKSHOP SPACE NEEDED

We need a workshop to construct seasteading technology prototypes, including small platforms. The space needs to:
- Be not very far from Sunnyvale, CA
- Be around 250 square feet or more (that's about a two-car garage)
- Be available starting in Jan/Feb 2009
- Have power and lighting
- Have vehicle access
- Have an accessible toilet and sink within a block or so

Phone and internet are plusses.

An indoor space would be most effective since it would provide shelter from weather.  An outdoor space could also work if there's a shed to store tools, and if there aren't concerns about damage to grass.

Thanks for reading; see you next month!
