Hi,

I am just starting to work with tryton and I am facing some challenges installing it. I am currently stuck at the point where trying to upgrade trytond to the latest version (from 3.0.2) gives a cryptic error about:
"error: command 'x86_64-linux-gnu-gcc' failed with exit status 1"
and trying to uninstall it gives:
"Not uninstalling trytond at /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages, owned by OS"

I am guessing it would be a good idea to use a virtual environment such as virtualenv or condaenv or docker, perhaps? Can anyone recommend me a way to manage packages?

Thank you in advance,

Tryton newbie

A little more background would help: What system, what installation type (
Sourche, package, ....)

If you are starting, why an upgrade from an old, unsupported release?

Cheers

Verify you have installed build-essential (if you are in debian or derivatives) and python-dev correctly

We use virtualenv for development and docker images for deployment. If
you interested on docker we recently added docker images for tryton:

https://hub.docker.com/r/tryton/tryton/

There are images for 4.4 and 4.6 series.

If you want to build custom images (with custom series) this is a good
starting point.

I tried installing through the Synaptic Package manager that I had on my linux mint, and that had that as the most recent version. When I realized that there is a far newer one, I tried to upgrade to the newest one and ran into the error that I mentioned. I managed to get it working using virtualenv as mentioned in one of the other replies. I just installed everything from scratch in a brand new virtualenv.

John

I double-checked these two packages, both seem to be installed correctly and I was still running into the same errors before I started using the virtualenv

Thanks soo much for telling me what you are using. I installed vitualenv, created a new environment, installed tryton from scratch and it is currently working. Thank you again for the advice,

John
