Cost method for service type of product template

Hello.
Product.Template model offers a possibility to choose FIFO, Average and Fixed Cost Methods for Service type of Product. Is there any justification or explanation why does cost method should be selected for service?
Cost method is used for the calculation of stock value of tangible assets in stock. And from my perspective, therefore, Cost Method should not be applied to Service, which is intangible. Thank you for your opinions.
