Dear Tryton Community,

Several weeks ago we were pleased to announce the long awaited Tryton Foundation [1] which is in charge of the financial needs of the Tryton project, including the expenses of its creation, the accounting cost and servers cost.

The Tryton Foundation is already composed of a board of volunteering directors and several supporters, which we expect that will keep growing in the time to come.

Now we need the financial help of the whole Tryton Community to help the Foundation carry on with its task of support to the Tryton project.

We want to encourage you to make a donation to the Tryton Foundation and help this exciting and growing project that already brings an open source business solution free from any vendor lock-ins!

Help us achieve the 3.000€ target (*). Please, go to [1] to find out how to make your donation.

It's in your hands!

(*) For transparency we detail current and expected expenses for the first year:

Notary: 1.200€
Accounting: 800€
Server: 300€
DNS: 15€
Account: 25€
Credit card: 30€

Our goal of 3.000€ will ensure we can go for a higher server for unit testing.

Have you considered a sponsorship from a companies in the comunity to get the required server? It's something that's working on other comunities.

Can You elaborate more on the details of a basic server and a higher server?

We prefer to not depend on only one company goodwill for such important
service.

> Can You elaborate more on the details of a basic server and a higher server?

For now, unittest runs on "i686 Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.66GHz" with 1G
of RAM and it took almost 9 hours to run the trunk unittest for the 3
databases (see [1]). MySQL is the principal culprit so I'm thinking
about a way to run it less often. But anyway, 1.5 hour start to become
too long to get fast feedback. So having at least a dual core will be
better to run Python and the Database on each cores and increase to 2G
of RAM will not be luxury.

FYI, it is the same server that runs also the demo. Once we will get the
web client, I guess there will be an increase of connections also.

In just twelve days we reached 874.89 Eur, almost a third of our target for
this year! Still, some of the payments should be done shortly so if you plan
to make a donation, please do not hesitate, now is the time!

The foundation will thank all donators (except you prefer to keep anonymous)
in a new donators section in the foundation web page.

I also want to remind you that you can become a supporter of the foundation
just by asking to any of the members of the board. Your request will be
considered in the next board meeting and added to the upcoming supporters
section of the foundation's web page.

Thanks in advance for your contributions!

Hi all,

I was wondering if it has a way to every company involved to Tryton donate about 10 euros per month. I think it's a small amount to contribute monthly per company. And it would not be mandatory. It would be for only those who wanted to participate. Is there a way to register the bank account to make this debit automatic monthly and credit to the foundation?

Gittip* [1] could be a good solution for small recurring donations.

* For Cedric - It is safe to open the link, it has nothing to do  with git VCS.

gittip is already on the donation page[1].

But I think that you can already encode recurring order in your bank
with the information from this page.

Hi Everyone
We talked a little about this in the Unconference. I think that it's an
interesting idea to have an affordable and not mandatory membership.
We are part of the Drupal Association and it's very easy to manage anual
membership [1]. For us is very usefull because you have a reminder of
the membership.
With this method the Tryton Foundation can plan the income money and
organize activities.
We keep in contact

Yes, that was what I was thinking and wanting, but I think I did not
express myself well. To encourage people to participate could give
discount on events and products offered by the foundation. But it would
have to be organized and have a management. How could we do this for the
Tryton's foundation?

First, at the Foundation creation, there was a strong concensus to not
use a membership fees and to live with volunteer donation.

In the meanwhile, we see that the first round of donation worked pretty
well but people generaly forget to renew their donation. So on the
board, there is a running discussion to solve this by sending a gently
reminder to past donator (and member) if they did not make a donation
since one year. Personaly I find it is a good compromise between free
membership and recurring donation.

After that, of course if poeple has suggestions to ease the recurring
donation. For example a service similar to Paypal but with recursion, we
can evaluate it to support it.

An other point is that normally the Foundation should be allowed to
start the process of being recognized of "public interest" in 2014 (must
wait 1 year). This should allow to provide fiscal deduction (at least
for Europe countries).

I will be very in favour of sending a very gently reminder to past
donators if they did not make a donation since one year.

It's not a hard work to generate a script that sends and email and IMHO
it would have a good effect.

Does the foundation have and email (or another contact mechanims) of the
supporters?

For supporters, yes.
For donator, it depends if they share it with the donation or not.

This may be U.S.-centric, but I know of at least one webhosting company that will host for free if you are a registerd 501(c)3 non-profit. If interested, I can find out more information about getting the US side of things taken care of.

Happy to have made a donation in recognition of the great support offered in this group.

I hope everyone who gets benefit of the expertise here will continue to donate and support the Tryton foundation

Best regards

Is not the Paypal order receipt enough?
