This from the OpenNI group:
"A new "unstable" release was uploaded into the www.openni.org site.
(OpenNI - 1.4.0.2, NiTE - 1.5.0.1, Sensor - 5.0.5.1).
*** The main feature of the release is the removal of the calibration
pose! ***
Please check out the new NiUserSelection sample that shows different
mechanisms of how to pick the active users."

Any chance this means no calibration mode might be incorporated in Tryplex/Synapse?

At the moment it'll be dependant on OSCeleton or Synapse to update (or maybe updating openNI should work?).
But I can say that Mr. Fred is working on a openframeworks alternative for both that'll have autocalibration. He's currently touring in Australia, so can't make an estimation when it'll come.

After several months of absents, I ma now back to tryplex. Was really busy with writing and other boring stuff. When I downloaded V0.222, however, got this error:

Error opening socket on specified port. Please choose a different port.

I clicked OK and it is working fine, just curious what has happened. Second, I am using osceleton tell me, please, why would I use Synase? what are the advantages and benefits and can I use both?

Thanks a lot
Muqeem

hummmm, with v0.222 QC is behaving very differently; if I run osceleton and sendosc from the newly downloaded folder. It open and stop and then quite. May be I have to update my plugins? in my plugin folder? or may be I have to nstall something, cannot figure out this and error message:

Error opening socket on specified port. Please choose a different port.

is still there. Any help please.....

Hi Muqeem!

Welcome back, hope you're research worked out!
It seems other users are having difficulty as well. Are you on osx lion? I'm not on lion myself so don't know if it works or not.
Maybe the finder preview is on, this caused problems like this for me earlier.

You could try the following:
- Close any windows in finder that can contain tryplex compositions.
- Replace qcosc with the 0.6 version from the 0.222 toolkit.

I'm going apply a minor update to the toolkit this weekend replacing qcOsc with the stock QC osc receiver. That might eliminate problems like this.

I've summed up the mayor differences with synapse here: http://code.google.com/p/tryplex/wiki/Installation
The main advantage is that it's an easier setup to use with one user.

Sebastian.

Thanks, I am running 10.6.8 and when I closed all those finders windows (previews) the error message is gone, great.

I got some ideas and thought to experiment. Thanks for the guidance and looking forward to seeing some more compositions. BTW, I am happy with osceleton and just thinking why bother Synase.

But agian, you know better,

thanks a lot
Muqeem

HI,

I know I have seen it in one of the comp, however, cannot recall how. Is there a way to trigger a switch if two skeleton elements are closer to each other? I can see two hands are together, but  do I have a choice of "lHand" closer to my "neck" or something.

Thanks a lot for this hint

Best
Muqeem

Hi Muqeem,

Yes, you can make these yourself with math and logic functions.
What you'll need to do is measure the distance between two xyz points of two userID's.
That's already being done in the '01s_Kinect Skeleton Gesture Hands Together.qtz' macro file, that you can find in the macros folder of the tryplex kit. If you open it in qc, en go inside the macro you'll see how it works. You can copy and paste the macro's contents and use them for your own purposes to change elements and userID's for the distance you'd like to measure.
The tolerance factor allows you to change the minimum distance it should have before it triggers something.

Hello sebastian

any developments on "Mr. Fred's" openframeworks app that will not need
calibration or as you say auto-calibration? Just curious ;)

thanks

victor

Hi Victor,

Sorry, no good news yet! He's quite busy at the moment...
