Dear Brothers,

I sent out an email to ncal-talk just over a month ago letting you know that my wife Elizabeth was gravely ill.  I asked for your witnessing of me, for your love and support as well as for financial assistance if you were willing and able.  Your response was beautiful.  I was deeply touched by your care and generosity which helped me stay by Elizabeth's side throughout her illness.  I will never be able to fully express my gratitude to you.

Elizabeth was finally diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer on the day she transitioned into hospice on February 21st.  She passed away on March the 12th.  The illness is a fast and ruthless killer.  There is no way to convey the experience of being the care provider for a loved one with terminal illness.  I am forever changed by the process of being there for Elizabeth until her death and now beyond.

From the beginning of our relationship Elizabeth tried to teach me that life was precious.  This was her learning from surviving breast cancer 12 years ago.  She drank deeply from life and made it her mission to fully self express and in so doing to be a conduit of love.  She contributed to people wherever she was.  Even in the hospital fighting for her life and in all her pain she would make a point of connecting with the nurses and other staff, to learn their names and to acknowledge them for their kindness and care.  She treated them with dignity and love.

I am grateful to my beloved Elizabeth for receiving my love and giving me hers.  I have been gifted with so much.  I will love her the remainder of my life and I will do my best to retain her teaching of the preciousness of life and to make the most of the time I have here on earth.

In Peace

P.S. There is a memorial in the afternoon on April 6th in San Mateo open to all.  If any man wishes to attend please message me.
