to Trust Reason
Hello. This group was formed to be an add-on to my website,
http://trustreason.com

For the past few years, I've been striking out the word "God" on money
and replacing it with "Reason". I also put my website on the
currency, so that people can come and discuss this and the issue of
religion in government.

I am an atheist, so the idea of my government promoting God troubles
me. It sets us up as second-class citizens, which is not what this
country is about. There are those who will argue that this is a
Christian nation, and I will agree. It is a Christian nation.
However, it is also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Hindu nation,
an atheist nation, and a nation for those with a wide variety of other
beliefs. The founding fathers didn't want special favor for
Christians, and explicitly said so. Anybody who wants a good read on
the subject should look up Madison's Memorial and Remonstrance.

Anybody who lived through the McCarthy era knows how divisive it was.
It is no wonder that the products of that era, the instantiation of
"In God We Trust" as a national motto and the insertion of "Under God"
into the Pledge of Allegiance, are also divisive. Divisiveness over
religious beliefs is not supposed to be what this country is about.
Let us work to make government neutral on the topic of religion.
