CHRISTMAS QUOTES
Matthew 1:18
Introduction: I love quotes. Here is a few that I have used a lot over
the years. "Only one life, twill soon be past and only whatīŋŊs done for
Christ will last." Abraham Lincoln said "people are as happy as they make
up their mind to be." "Jesus is the reason for the season." I could go on
and on but that is my intention today.
I intend to quote some scripture for our education of who is the real
person of Christmas. LetīŋŊs look at them together.
I. ISAIAH SPEAKS OF THE PERSON OF CHRIST
Isaiah 9:6
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government
shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful,
Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
If you want to know what kind of person the Lord Jesus is, then spend
some time in this one verse of scripture. Here are five names that could
be five sermons but the joy that we know Him as our Wonderful Saviour, as
our Competent Counsellor in all areas of life. We know Him as the Mighty
God who can do anything but fail. We know Him as the everlasting Father
who guides our growth as a believer. We did not peace until that day we
met the Prince of Peace.
II. MICAH SPEAKS OF THE PLACE OF CHRIST
Micah 5:2
"But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands
of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler
in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting."
I was born in Bluefield, West Virginia. But no one seven hundred years
before my birth recorded where I would be born but the little town of
Bethlehem was the place of ChristīŋŊs birth. It was just like Micah said.
So we can quote the place of ChristīŋŊs birth.
III. JOHN SPEAKS OF THE PRESENCE OF CHRIST
John 1:14
"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his
glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace
and truth."
What a blessing to have Jesus to dwell with us! His childhood friends did
not realize that He was God in the flesh. The Pharisees did not realize
that they had God in flesh dwelling among them. But we have the greatest
blessing- God dwelling in us. He will never leave nor forsake us. He
answers prayer and it is not a long distance call either. John had the
privilege to have Jesus to dwell among him until that day Jesus dwelling
in him.
IV. PAUL SPEAKS OF THE PRESENT OF CHRIST
2nd Corinthians 9:15
"Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift."
I have been presents that left me speechless but not for long. But on May
10, 1972, I got a present that I still can not completely understand. I
received the present called salvation and my life has different sense.
V. THE ANGELS SPEAK OF THE PROCLAMATION OF CHRIST
Luke 2:10-14
"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good
tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people." "For unto you is
born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
"And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in
swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." "And suddenly there was with the
angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying," "Glory
to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
One of my favorite Christmas songs and it is one that you hear and enjoy
all year around. It is the Hallelujah song of HandalīŋŊs Messiah. Just
think of the great proclamation that the shepherds hear that day. It was
a proclamation of great joy. It is a proclamation for all people. It was
a birth proclamation of God being born in flesh. No wonder they
proclaimed in song "Glory to God in the highest". This should our message
to all that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God this season.
Conclusion: What will you and I say this Christmas season about Jesus?
When you give the Gospel message to someone and they get saved, you have
given the greatest gift possible.
