i have a question about music. can you listen to maher zain, same yusuf? because i was looking at maher zain facebook fan page and is says Worked with in the past: RedOne (The Producer behind Lady Gaga, Akon etc) now he sings about Allah and islam, now maybe he worked with them before and is a diffrent person now, but still i wouldnt want to say i worked those kind of satanic singers i would be to ashamed, like i dont know who to trust now ????
i dont think who maher zain has worked with in the past makes his music haram to listen to , just as long as it is music that is allowed its ok if he is singing about Allah swt it has nothing to do with lady gaga.
To the best of my knowledge, there are no shia ahadith saying that certain forms of music are not included in al ghina and therefore permitted. It's a sunni innovation of applying qiyas and classifying music into different forms as well as saying that certain musical instruments are non arab(therefore haram) and others are arab(therefore halal). In fact sunni fuqaha like Malik, Shafi'i etc have condemned music by saying it lowers maruyya (manhood) but not in itself forbidden in Islam. "Scholars" like the yazeed loving Al Ghazali have exploited loopholes in sunni fiqh to declare music permissible.
From what I have been taught, and read from posts by other members of this forum, Ghina is explicitly defined as the use of the voice box to generate tunes of entertainment (i.e. singing, particularly by females). That is what is condemned by the Quran. However, there are some very disturbing ahadith from our Imams (as) that condemn listening and even possessing musical instruments. Bros MacIsaac and Nader Zaveri might have that material to share.
