ShriNarsiah, a high caste Brahmin was a humble railway station master of Polreddipalayam station in Andhra Pradesh who had saved the lives of hundreds of persons bitten by poisonous snakes such as cobras, vipers and the deadly kraits. Anyone bitten by a poisonous snake anywhere in India had only to send a telegram to him at his station mentioning the name and address of the afflicted person. As the people in that area were extremely poor and could ill afford the cost of an express telegram, there was an unwritten covenant in the minds of the telegraphists of the area that any such telegram received or handled should be transmitted fast giving priority over even express telegrams. And Narsiah used to receive the messages urgently.
