Just fired up the new version and everything worked fine for a couple
of hours, then I went to add a couple lists to the growled alerts.
When I hit 'save,' a window popped up telling me there was a .Net
exception, and closed Trowl. Now every time I try to restart it, it
immediately tells me 'Trowl has stopped working,' and nothing
happens. Any ideas what I've done to it? This is the whole reason I
have GfW on my computer, so it's killing me not having it work!

Hello!

I found this bug during my own testing, and it should be fixed in the latest build (which I'm about to release). If you'd like to try it, you can download it now here:

Let me know if this fixes the bug for you.

Thanks!

Nope. Still having the same issue. I wish it gave me a more detailed
error, but still just 'Trowl has stopped working.'

That's strange, that doesn't even sound like an exception. Perhaps the configuration became corrupted due to the earlier crash.
The configuration is stored in \Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Trowl
Could you please try deleting the folder, or moving it somewhere else temporarily?

Thanks!

Score! That one solved it. I had thought to give that a go, but
didn't have the slightest idea where the folder was to try.

Glad to hear that worked. I'm sorry the configuration got wiped, but the crash issue should be solved now. The crash you received earlier was due to a problem with grabbing a Twitter list, but it should be fixed now. Let me know if you have any problems adding it again. Thank you for your help with working out the problem!

As a follow-up: I can get Trowl to run, and everything works fine, but
if I close it for any reason I have to delete the appdata folder and
authorize again. So I guess all is not quite well.

It sounds like it's having trouble reading or writing the configuration file, which is very odd. Could you send me the list of steps you take when setting up Trowl, being sure to include the name of any lists or search criteria you add? I may need you to send me your configuration file after you set up Trowl, but I'm leaving that as a last resort since it includes account login keys.

If you'd rather email me this info privately, feel free to use tr...@mageuzi.com.
Thanks again for your help, and sorry about these issues.

I authorize, then check off 24 of my 27 follows (do you need specifics
or is the number fine?) and the lists Latin Teachers & Profs and Latin
Language and Roman Culture. The only box left unchecked is the remote
control one, and its set to growl replies to followers and regrowl
mentions. I don't have any searches set up, and I set it to look for
and report spam. I set it to pause on idle, login automatically, show
the no growl alert, check for new versions of Trowl, and use the
default keyboard shortcut. I'm only using one account, so I don't
play with any of the other settings.

Excellent, that helped a lot, thank you. I think I found the problem. Please download the latest build from the website (http://mageuzi.com/trowl) and try it out. You will need to configure your account again (you shouldn't need to delete the configuration files first), but hopefully this will be the last time.

I'm only seeing a download for 7.1.  Am I missing something or did it no update right?

You should be able to re-download 0.7.2 at  http://mageuzi.com/trowl/download.html ?

Still only giving me the 7.1 file.  Here's the page I see when I go to download:

Hm, you might be seeing a cached copy. Try holding down the Shift key while clicking the refresh button to force it to get the latest copy from the server.

That did it.  Got the new version now.  Thanks!
