Alright, here it is. I have also been having game crashes, tons of them, the Launcher issue happened after the update so I finally bit the bullet and did a fresh install. Still crashes and now has this Launcher issue on top of it. I have been launching Wow.exe from the retail folder directly to avoid the launcher all together.
Blizzard has taken the next major step to phasing out the classic Battle.net name it's used for the past two decades. With the release of a new update, the company's launcher app no longer bears the Battle.net branding.
It is very simple and it works just fine with other windows. But with Battle.net, it does not bring the launcher to the foreground and simply prints "(0, 0, 640, 480)" instead of the correct geometry. I wonder if there is something special about the Battle.net launcher that messes up these functions
Since Diablo Immortal is the hot new thing, I decided to attempt to give it a go on Steam Deck. Turns out the Battle.net launcher really hates some connections, here's a fix and a Diablo Immortal video.
You might find the Battle.net launcher which you can install easily with Lutris (Steam Deck Lutris Guide) can take forever to actually load or do anything. Now, this might be specific to whatever WiFi hardware you have, in my case it's the Google Mesh WiFi system and Blizzard don't seem to like it. An easy fix though is to manually set your DNS to 1.1.1.1 (or any other free DNS service). On Steam Deck, simply right click on the WiFi icon in Desktop Mode and hit Configure Network Connections:
When you are trying to play some Blizzard games on Battle.net app, the launcher might show you a message: Waiting on another installation or update. It is a normal prompt indicating that there are other pending installations or updates. However, some users complain that there are no such things ongoing when they get the message.
With patch 3.0.8, the launcher was redesigned with a new look. Also added to the "Options" menu was a bare-essentials "Game Preferences" panel, "Downloader Preferences" panel, and a "Parental Controls" link to the "WoW Account Management" website.
The reasoning and utility of the launcher is based on the fact that, for instance, if a large raid instance is being added to the game there's no reason why the players shouldn't be allowed to access the game world and play as it downloads.
