Doesthe Epic Games Launcher take a long time to download games? In general, download speeds drop due to other devices or processes hogging network resources, leaving little bandwidth for the Epic Games client to use.

It's possible to get super slow download speeds in Epic Games if there is a backend issue with the client or any other Epic Games service. Therefore, if your download speed has dropped unexpectedly, ensure all Epic Games servers and systems are up and running and the cause of the problem is not there.

You can check that in several ways, but here's the easiest: go to Epic Games' status page and check if everything is up and running, shown as green. If any outages are listed there, represented by a red or yellow color, wait for Epic Games to resolve the backend problem, and the download speed will return to normal.

The Epic Games client allows users to throttle downloads when playing games or using network resources for something more substantial. This handy setting prevents the launcher from overstressing your bandwidth during a game update or installation.

When this option is enabled, the Epic Games Launcher will not let the download speed reach its maximum potential, which leads to slower download speeds. As such, you should ensure this feature is not enabled in the client's settings. To check that, follow these steps:

The Windows operating system prioritizes essential system processes over third-party ones. Consequently, it allocates the most resources to prioritized processes to improve efficiency. As Epic Games processes are also third-party, they are also viewed as low priority. Hence fewer resources are allocated to them.

To ensure that the system prioritization isn't slowing down the downloads, you should set the launcher's processes as high-priority. This way, the system will allocate maximum bandwidth resources to the Epic Games Launcher, allowing it to download files faster. To make Epic Games processes a priority, follow these steps:

The Epic Games Launcher keeps some data in its cache, which makes it easier for the client to find and load necessary information faster. If not cleared timely, the accumulated cache can lead to unforeseen problems, including slow download speeds. Therefore, it is imperative to clear the cache, especially if it hasn't been cleared in a while.

According to Reddit users and numerous YouTubers, modifying the Engine.ini file in the Epic Games installation folder can also make the download process faster. Follow these steps to reconfigure the file:

Waiting hours to install a game or update an existing one can ruin our day. Hopefully, the above steps will help you optimize the Epic Games Launcher and speed up downloads. If nothing works and downloads keep lagging, remove the existing launcher installation and reinstall it again from scratch.

My Ally will not download any faster than 11.5MB/s and I cannot figure out why or fix it. Every other device connected to my network is downloading at nearly 100MB/s so I know it's not a network issue. I'm not downloading to an SD card either, I'm using the internal SSD. I've played with settings and made sure nothing is limiting or throttling download speeds. I'm baffled. The speed is so slow that if I'm downloading a game I can barely get a website to load.

Have you tried performing an EC reset to see if it improves the situation? (Please shut down the device, remove the power cord and any external peripherals, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds before restarting and testing.)

I know the difference between megabytes and megabits. Regardless of the capitalized B I am referring to Megabytes. My Ally downloads only a 11.5 Megabytes per second or slower everywhere, not just steam. Xbox, browsers, epic launcher, everything. I am using Google Nest WiFi, model H2D, software version 14150.376.32, and connected to it on 5GHz, unfortunately Googles Home app that controls the wifi does not provide the firmware version. But like I said, I don't think its the router. Today I took the unit to a friends house, connected it to his wifi, and the download speed was still incredibly slow. I am not entirely sure the problem is with the driver either, today I connected a NetGear usb wifi adapter to the Ally and disabled the built-in wifi, unfortunately that did not increase the download speed. So now I'm left to wonder if Windows may be doing something to limit the bandwidth. This just keeps getting more and more perplexing as I go lol

I fixed it. I did two things so I'm not sure which one did the trick. Even tho I don't even have a microSD card installed I decided to download the driver from the support site and install it, then before restarting for the driver install I changed the wireless adapter from 802.11ax to 802.11ac for the 5GHz band. I restarted the device and went to download a game, much to my surprise it took right off and as I type this it is downloading at 90.3 Megabytes a second and showing no sign of slowing down.

Okay this is really getting frustrating now. This morning when I turned on my Ally my download speeds were back down to 11 Megabytes. I checked and it was still set to 802.11ac but my download speed is still in the toilet. I'm going to keep playing around and see if I can get anything done with it.

Okay. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the driver, tried the driver from March, played with the 802.11 settings on both, set them to broadcast on specific bands, I've basically gone through every permutation of possible configurations available to the driver and so far I am unable to recreate the download speed increase I was able to produce last night by simply changing the driver to 802.11ac. But the fact that I was able to increase my speeds at all totally verifies that this is a driver issue and nothing more than that. Simply put, I did not pay $700 for this kind of subpar network performance and I hope ASUS is working with MediaTek to resolve this swiftly. Also worth mentioning is something I noticed in my Device Manager, the current driver seems to be experiencing issues with the WAN Miniport (IP) I'll attach screenshots below. This issue did go away when I changed to the driver from March, and it went away when I changed the adapter to 802.11ac last night but today its not going away with that change so I'm thinking that is where the problem may ultimately be.

When trying to download RocketLeague this morning the speed was anywhere from 800 kbps to 2 MBps. The machine i'm using is plugged straight into a Gb switch and am on a Gb plan. Speedtest's show an average around 950 Mbps.

The EPIC download started around 20MB/s and then fluctuated for a while between 20MB/s and 40MB/s.

Then after downloading 1 gigabyte or so... the download speed ramps down to 0MBs and stays there.

Pausing and then unpausing the download in the EPIC GUI gets it going again but it repeats the pattern and gets stuck again at 0MB/s after a while.

Something is seriously wrong. On Internode my downloads for EPIC maxed out my connection and stayed there until they were complete.

Earlier in the day today I was downloading a game from EA and that reported that it had lost Internet connection about 3 or 4 times and I had to click a button each time for it to resume. That one didn't provide a nice download metrics graph like EPIC does, so I can't comment on if it is was doing the same thing, but seems like it might have been?

I'm pretty sure DNS isn't the issue for me.

I'm using the same DNS providers that I was with my previous ISP where I wasn't having any problems.

I use Quad9 (9.9.9.9) and CloudFlare (1.1.1.1) for my DNS.

I watched the download again last night and there seemed to a pattern.

It would download for around 1 minute, then go to 0B/s and sit there for 20seconds then start up again.

This cycle kept repeating.

At one point during the download a banner appeared at the top of the EPIC game store window saying that it had lost Internet connection...

Anyone else contacted Superloop support about this? The online chat basically didn't do much, apart from issue a different static IP... however I don't really feel that will do anything, as my other mates (on superloop) do not have static ip, and have the same issues. I feel the issue is routing, but the chat support never mentioned anything about looking into the issue at all....

I finally managed to get through to support (there's not much time after work when chatting from Perth, yesterday I was waiting 1.5 hours and then time was up. Only 40 mins today but got there).

The support member has raised this problem with their faults team for further investigation and says I should hear from them within 48 hours.

I hope they find something actionable.

Ask them if you are on CGNAT address ? I used all gaming clients and my steam and origin as well as Battlenet and the speeds are spot on in fact Superloop is meant to have direct peering into most of them hence the good pings.

Can everyone on this thread please also raise a ticket with SuperLoop support? More people raising the quicker we will get fixed.. as it seems to be an ongoing issue. I have linked their online complaint form below, it should only take 5 minutes to fill out and is much quicker than calling or chatting to an agent. Hopefully we can get a fix for this issues soon!

Superloop/Exetel are definitely throttling some connections, I guarantee that this has been one of those connections that are getting punnished. I've noticed the same thing downloading on from Onedrive and Mega.

Ok valid point. I'll give it a try at some point over the Easter break.

What I can say though is I was using these DNS servers from my 250mbps connection on Internode just before I switched to Superloop and the EPIC game store downloads were maxing out my connection.

I guess there must still be an issue for the records being returned for Victoria? (assuming your profile is up to date with your location).

I guess all you can do is raise a case and send details of the DNS lookups you're getting using Superloop's DNS servers vs say the Google DNS server on 8.8.8.8 along with traceroutes for the IPs you get from both of those, and state your location and so on...
