Aused D700 is well below $1000 nowadays. Since yours is dropped and the impact damage is serious enough that is no longer takes pictures, I would probably not repair it. You can replace the shutter or whatever, but structurally, it is unlikely to be the same any more. If your repair cost is as high as $600, you maybe better off getting something else. You may get some money selling the damaged camera as parts.

On the other hand, yours was used even before it was dropped, and you can probably buy a "pre-owned" one in good shape for less than that repair estimate, although shipping and customs can, as noted, be a problem.

Last time I checked the bill for shutter replacement was below $400 (here in US), but you may have more issues besides the shutter; therefore, you may be looking at larger repair bill. You do, indeed, need an accurate repair assessment....whether this whole excersize is worth pursuing.

There has to be some worthy D700 bodies out there avail. around this price. As others have stated, you are taking a bet that it's only a damaged shutter and / or mirror that you are likely to be dealing with.

There may be some differences between prices in Romania and in the US, for both used or repair cost, but the difference cannot be that much, as the OP clearly has the option to get the item repaired in a different country or purchase one and get it shipped over.

I once had my D700 with a 70-200mm/f2.8 AF-S attached set up on a tripod to my eye level, which is close to 6". A strong gust of wind blew the while thing over and my D700 hit hard rock. There is now a dent on the side but the D700 continued to work fine ever since, and that was over 5 years ago. Clearly how and where it suffers the impact can make a difference, but the D700 is a tough camera. The OP really needs to find out whether his D700 is worthwhile to fix, or he can potentially spend a few hundred dollars and still has a somewhat defective camera, adding insult to injury.

2-take it to another repair place in switzerland and get an estimate. I think theyd be more truthful regarding actual costs. I have a feelibg nikon romania saw ur dire situation and wants to take advantage of it thinking u have no convenient choice

Personally id do number 2 first and if the price is high, id try 3 and if that was high as well, do 4. But hell no would I do 1. Btw u will probably have to goto customs to get an export authrization paper so ehen u bring it back into the country u dont get hitfor customs fees. Make a copy and add a copy to the outside of the box and inside and write export papers( lens for repair only).

I went through this with repairing my 28-70 afs. I bought the lens from an ebayer who lied regarding the condition of the motor. Nikon n in my country tried to rape me with their crazy repair price. Nikon us melville would take close to two months and other there quoted me high prices.

I recently noticed that the mirror bracket, reflector, and spring on my Nikon D3200 camera have been damaged and are no longer functioning properly. I'm not sure how this happened, but now my camera is unable to take clear photos and the autofocus and exposure functions are affected.

The mirror bracket is loose and wobbly, the reflector is cracked and doesn't reflect light properly, and the spring is completely detached. I'm concerned that this could be a serious issue and affect the camera's overall performance. I'm looking for advice on how to fix or replace these parts. Is this something that I can do myself or if I need to take it to a professional for repair? Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. As this is more than 10 years old model if you are OK to buy new camera you can try to repair it by yourself. Be warned this may include need of almost full disassemble of the camera, use specific instruments and buy spare part.

The problem is, if you're unlucky, you may replace all of those pieces only to discover that the body itself has some subtle damage that causes these parts to not remain properly oriented with respect to one another. At that point, you've wasted most of the cost of a replacement camera ($160 for that model used) and you have nothing to show for it.

So it seems silly to spend well over half the replacement cost just to repair something. Your odds of success would have to be almost 100% for that to make sense, and that's really not the case for something like this.

So my advice would be to just shoot in view mode mode until the mirror completely stops working, and then find yourself a used replacement. Live view mode photos should be unaffected, because that mode isn't dependent on the standalone focus sensor inside the viewfinder or the mirror (so long as it stays up and out of the way).

However, the mirror replacement cost can escalate depending on several factors. Electric mirrors, heated mirrors, and luxury vehicle components for brands like BMW or Audi are more sophisticated and, therefore, more expensive to replace. For cars equipped with newer technologies like blind spot detection or road mapping capabilities, costs can increase significantly due to the complexity of the parts and the labor involved.

Mirrors equipped with indicators, sensors, or cameras typically require calibration once replaced. The cost for this service can vary, typically ranging from $75 to $200, ensuring that all technological features function correctly and safely post-installation.

The choice between genuine manufacturer parts (OEM) and aftermarket parts can significantly affect the cost. OEM parts usually offer better compatibility and durability but come at a higher price point, often costing 20% to 50% more than aftermarket alternatives.

For minor damages, such as a loose side view mirror glass or a cracked trim panel, you can often manage these repairs yourself using basic tools such as a screwdriver and some fasteners. Here are the steps for each:

Some service providers offer mobile side mirror replacement, where they come to your location. This is particularly convenient for those with tight schedules or limited access to traditional repair facilities.

Prompt attention not only helps you avoid potential fines but also ensures your safety by maintaining essential visibility and awareness of your surroundings. Remember, you have options. Assessing the extent of the damage and choosing the right repair solution are crucial to meet your needs without straining your wallet.

The highest repair cost for ADAS components is attributed to radar sensors and cameras damaged in a front-end collision. However, the replacement of a side mirror represented the largest proportion of repair costs of the three scenarios.

The 2023 Ford F-150, 2023 Nissan Rogue, and 2023 Toyota Camry are included in this work. In 2018, the AAA Automotive Engineering team evaluated the 2018 model year versions of these vehicles for the same purpose as this study; however, it should be noted that results are not directly comparable due to differences in standard equipment, changes in labor costs and methodology.

Mirror movement happens when you have raised the mirror but not necessarily taken a shot. This can happen if you have mirror lock up set, switch to live view or use movie mode. Your counts are very similar which would indicate that the camera has been mostly used for stills with the optical finder.

Personally I have never had to replace a shutter assembly but I know of several friends or associates that have. The last one was a couple years ago and cost $350 bucks by Canon. I am sure it has gone up a little now so the replacement will be near the value of a used working 5D Mk III. If the shutter goes, it could be easier to just find a good used 5D Mk III.

Keep in mind that a new vehicle will be more expensive to insure and register. Newer vehicles also tend to have higher initial repair costs than older models. However, newer vehicles tend to offer better fuel efficiency and come with warranties that can help you save on costs during the first few years of ownership.

2. Check if They Have Experience with Your Vehicle

Contact auto body repair shops to see if they have experience servicing your make and model of vehicle. Not every auto body repair shop may be able to service certain foreign or luxury vehicles.

4. Check Their Work Guarantees

Does the shop stand behind their work? If not, it could be a red flag. The best repair shops will guarantee their work for the lifetime of the vehicle.

Q: How do auto body repair shops estimate the cost of repairs?

A: Most shops offer free estimates, which is a chance for a professional estimator to assess the damage to your vehicle. They will ask you about the collision, look at cosmetic damage and determine if there could be unseen internal damage. Then they will put together an initial estimate that includes the cost of labor, materials and parts, and send it to your insurance company for approval.

Key Collision Centers offers stress-free insurance claims and lifetime guarantees on all auto body repairs for any vehicle make or model. Their exceptional customer service ensures a smooth repair experience.

You can install a mirror anywhere and some have extra features you might think are worth paying more for, such as anti-fogging capabilities or outlet covers built into the glass. Others have built-in lighting or can be pulled out from the wall.

A frameless bathroom mirror costs $10 to $100 for a plain mirror. A frameless mirror has a beveled edge and gives your bathroom a sleeker look. Frameless mirrors come in all shapes and sizes, including round or oval. Some will require specialized mounting hardware which costs more.
