You can put the secret Netflix menu to work to get full control over what kind of content you devour. It's all dependent on a code-based system. Different numeric codes on the service let you browse and select from thousands of niche genres and subcategories, whether you're into horror or rom-coms.
Typically, you're constrained to the genres available to you via the main Netflix menu. There's no way to choose by specific category other than what's been chosen for you when you log on. Using these codes opens up an entire library of options for you to choose from that can help you better settle on what to watch for the night. It can even help you discover new shows and movies you've never heard of.
Adding these codes to the ends of Netflix URLs lets you directly access collections of movies and TV shows that fall under your chosen category. For example, if you're short on time and want to queue up a shorter movie, you could check the 90-Minute Movies category with the code 81466194. Looking for something for your entire brood to enjoy? The "Family Movie Night" collection, accessed with code 2013975, is chock-full of favorites even Grandma can get into.
There are well over 36,000 codes to choose from, so don't worry about memorizing them or trying random sequences. Resources like Netflix-Codes.com have an entire directory to sift through, so you can search for what you'd like to watch there and find corresponding codes in no time.
Netflix-Codes.com has a comprehensive list of the streaming platform's hidden genre categories and subcategories. In total, there are around 20 top-level categories covering genres like animation, foreign films and classic movies. Within those main genres are many more hyper-specific subgenres denoted by numeric codes.
The entirety of the categories available on Netflix starts with broad main genres like Action, Comedy and Drama, but they get more specific as you dive even deeper. There are straight-to-the-point collections like Movies Directed by Women (code 2974953), or more specifically targeted curated lists, like Supernatural Soaps (code 81238162), just in case you like your werewolves with a side of angst and romance.
Are you a huge Swiftie? Is there another celebrity you want to learn more about? The Pop Culture Icons category (code 81278963) includes picks like the Taylor Swift-centric documentary Miss Americana or the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody.
Maybe you've been told time and time again that you should really get into Korean TV and don't know where to start. Hit up the K-Dramas for Beginners menu (code 2953105) for a selection of hit K-Drama series like Squid Game and Boys Over Flowers.
Rather than relying solely on the standard homepage categories or Netflix's algorithm, you can use these secret codes to pinpoint and explore different nooks and crannies of the catalog to find hidden gems.
If you're not comfortable with editing Netflix URLs, you can use a browser extension to access the secret menus. The Better Browse for Netflix extension for Chrome is a great choice. Here's how to use it:
If the extension is installed, you'll see a Browse All option at the top of your Netflix home screen next to My List. Click it to scroll through the subgenres or to search through specific categories.
Alternatively, you can use the FindFlix: Netflix Secret Category Finder browser extension for Chrome or Firefox. This add-on will create a drop-down menu complete with Netflix categories for your browser that you can scroll through by clicking on the FF icon that will appear on the top right of your screen. There's no need to scroll Netflix natively with this add-on, and it features 7,500 categories alphabetized for your convenience.
4. If you're on a device that has the Netflix app installed, the app should open and take you directly to the genre or subgenre you chose. If you don't have the app installed, it'll open Netflix through the browser and you can view the specific movies and shows available.
Netflix noticed that people were filling their queues with aspirational choices, independent films and documentaries, but rarely letting them get to the top of the list. When it was time to check out, it was Notting Hill and The Matrix every time.

The business model for Netflix is built on keeping you watching for as long as possible. The numbers are inexorable: Netflix has a 90-second window to help you find a movie or a TV show before you leave the platform and visit some other service. The recommendations are crucial.
Hope someone can help! There is a movie in my Save List, specifically Glass Onion, which is a Netflix movie. I want to delete that movie from my list, and there is no option to do so. I do understand that Netflix doesn't work with the Save List, which is the problem - the movie must have been in the My Feed queue before it changed over to Save List, and now it's stuck there. Just as you can't add a Netflix movie to your save list, you also, apparently, cannot delete a Netflix movie from the list.
I want to be very clear, before a rep responds, that I absolutely already know how to add and delete movies from my Save List the standard ways, and I do it all the time. However, the option to remove this particular item is just not there. But there must be some kind of recourse or workaround so it doesn't just remain stuck there forever.
So, any words of advice from the community? Anyone else had this issue and resolved it? If a rep can help, that would be great! (I also can't figure out how to contact Roku directly anymore, as used to be available.)
This issue is annoying me so much that I'd happily clear my entire Save List and re-add everything, just to get this one movie to disappear, lol. If that's an option, I also haven't figured out how to do that - how to clear the Save List (hopefully without doing a factory reset, which I'm not sure would even solve the problem).
Otherwise, search Google for "Roku telephone number" and look at the results just below the "People also ask" section. I tried to post one of the links (P***edConsumer.com), but my post got flagged and deleted.
For what it's worth, I managed to chat with a Roku representative, who was not able to help me at all. Like, AT ALL. Kept telling me to sign into Netflix and remove it from that list. Somehow I doubt that would help, because it's a separate list! Not to mention I am not even currently subscribed to Netflix - I don't even think it was in my Netflix queue, and I can't view it anyway, obviously. Regardless, there's another title stuck in my Roku Save list that has nothing to do with Netflix, and it too is stuck there.
OMG, I went in infuriating circles trying to explain this on the chat, and ended up basically being told there's nothing anyone can do about it. Not great, Roku. I'm pretty patient and understanding about most things, but ugh.
So the gist is, if there's a title which found its way onto your Save List in the past, and is currently either a Netflix title or not currently available to stream anywhere (aka "no providers found"), then you cannot delete it. And apparently Roku cannot or will not delete it for you. (Nor can you clear your entire Save List and start from scratch, apparently.) Seems like a system bug that needs to be fixed, and maybe I should report it that way, at least.
Again, that option doesn't exist on my app. I may have a different version of the app, I don't know, but it is not there - there are no dots at all when viewing the list as a whole, instead there's a box to check or uncheck on each title. The vast amount of content on Netflix can get pretty unwieldy. Luckily, there's a secret, better way to browse the swaths of mediocre titles on the streaming service to get to what you're really looking for.
Netflix has a huge list of hidden categories that go far beyond the usual Action, Drama, Sci-Fi, and the like. First discovered by the blog What's On Netflix, anyone can access them by simply typing specific URLs into a browser. Each URL has the format:
Some of these categories don't even come up in a Netflix search. While searching "Korean TV Shows" brings up the same list that appears at the category URL, searching "Classic War Movies" brings up a grab-bag of results, only some of which fit the bill. Some categories appear to be only used for suggestion purposes.
Wow, a weekend kicked off with Scandinavian Movies, followed by a 12-hour rotation of Classic Musicals and B-Horror Movies and finished off with Satanic Stories to lull you to sleep? Live that Netflix dream.
