I'm willing to commit to a 4-day turn-around so the next turn is scheduled for Monday
night. However, this means that you'll have to start posting soon (not just Angie and
Jussi) and not wait 3 days.
Let's pick this game up!
Questions, comments, and/or suggestions?
Game on!

[ooc – Just so you all know, my schedule is getting more and more crowded and the future doesn’t look good. I’m only supposed to have 2 reviews to do a month and right now I have 5 in house all with priority red. I’m committed to the game and will continue to contribute. I’m just not sure how prompt I can be at all times.]

Her face twisted into a wicked smile, “Bringing the Shard here will be your first test. Are you sure you want to be the Chosen Ones?”
[Leif / new]
Leif had remained on all fours for the recitation of the story. It seemed comfortable for the shifter and he hadn’t thought much of it. Leiflet was still prowling the perimeter, ready to come at a moment’s notice. Though she wasn’t sure what she could do. Leif stood, hunched as always and spoke to the old woman, “If we bring this shard… we will be allowed into the tomb?”
The old woman nodded.
“And this tomb will remain hidden to all but us, correct?” Leif continued.
Again she agreed.
Leif nodded and turned to the others, “Then I think our course of action is clear. I use the crystal from Patua and lead the bulk of them off. The rest of you find that shard and bring it here. You take Leiflet with you and I’ll head back and try to meet you once the doorway or whatever is open. Once we are inside the tomb we should be safe…” The old woman cackled. Leif turned to her, “Well, safe from the snake women. At least until we get out. Then it’ll be a mad dash to the ship if we are lucky, a fight if we aren’t.” Leif paused, the added, “Unless anyone else has a better idea?”
“What about my friends?” Daram asked weakly.
Leif gave him a hard stare that caused the man to cringe.

You know, combining campaigns can be the collest thing since sliced
bread. Players in one game hearing hints and legends of exploits of the
other game's heroes, of the dark deeds of their foes, searching for
clues left behind by the other party... Perhaps even a chance meeting
of the two parties... not that *that* is likely, but such things can be
great fun!

RPG: "It's not a matter of choice but of fate," Mel managed to
say with a straight face. Things seemed to be moving along nicely, and
the ancient bard's words had certainly sped up the process.
However...
"All these broken eggs... have you been watching the site?" Mel
asked Khoraana, a sweep of his arm taking in the crushed eggs littering
the clearing. "There have been others seeking to gain entrance, yes?
Have you seen them?" He took the opportunity to finally hand the
raven-skull wand to the bugbear giant, giving the brute a nervous grin
as he stepped within reach of its claws.

RPG: "Assuming the women don't chase after you and take their
prized possession with them..." Mel said, taking the side of the
Traveler. "You can find your way in this jungle, can't you?" the
occasional hobgoblin asked, giving Leif a sidelong look. "I imagine
you wouldn't enjoy getting lost with half the tribe at your
heels..."
"But I can't see a better solution. I don't want to take the
whole lot of them on in a fair fight - superior numbers are all to
the good when they are on your side - so some sort of diversion seems
prudent. I think I could give those that remain in the village
something to chew on with a few carefully crafted illusions, giving out

get on with it; we are running out of time ever as we speak."

Belkar listened intently as Leif and Mel laid out their plan. Finally, the human captain spoke, "I don't like it either. Since we first left the estate I have been against us splitting up. And this seems almost too much like offering Leif up as a sacrifice."
"Flask," Belkar said, "if your illusion could pull them off then we wouldn't need to take such risks."
Reaching down, Belkar sunk the bones of his right hand into the ground, pulling up a clod of dirt. Slowly, as he talked, he began to break it up; the dirt trickling between the pale finger bones and staining them with a dark, earthly color. Looking at Ember, Belkar said, "Ember and I could help as well. Though I'm hesitant to suggest it, some well placed flames may add to whatever Flask can pull up."
Tapping his dirty finger to the javelin over his shoulder, he added, "These also can lend some credence."
[Tag - Any]
"Its settled then," Belkar said, standing from where he squatted by the ground, wiping dirt and grass from his hands onto his trousers. "Lets go. Standard traveling order."

He came back to himself in time to hear Leif speak about drawing off
the snake women. What had happened while his attention had been
elsewhere? They were going to the village after all? The kalashtar
quickly caught up with the conversation.
[Bryn]
> "Maybe illusion not good enough for big distraction. Snake women have big
> powers, here," she tapped her forehead, "maybe not be fooled for long.
> Leif?" She asked the resident expert on mental powers. Surely he would know.
[Lan]
The good looking near-human shook his head. "No, they won't be fooled
by an illusion." He looked at Leif and shook his head. "It will be a
sacrifice if you try to face the combined might of those females.
There were only a few when I felt their power earlier."
He stroked the crystal he had been wearing since Leif had passed him
Pakua's bauble. "Even with this you would be in danger of revealing
everything to them." It was not, however, Lan's decision to make. If
the shifter wanted to give himself for the party then so be it. Maybe
they could use the distraction to free Daram's compatriots. Though
without protection the Morgraves would probably be captured again
quickly.
[Bryn]
> "Maybe can make traps, too. Snares, to catch if they follow. Dig pits, for
> them to fall into. Take more time, but better to be safe, yes?"
[Lan]
The healer listened to the party sketch a plan, finally looking to
Leif and Belkar in frustration. Though it came across as cool disdain.
"And while the entire party creates a distraction for the village who
will take advantage of it? Daram and I?"
"The group must be split. Fewer people will have a better chance of
escaping when they draw the natives' attention. Flask and Leif run
through a gauntlet of Bryn's traps. Flask has already shown some
resistance to the females' scans and Leif is best positioned to defend
himself mentally. Anyone else- Leif already described one way he could
stop an untrained person from escaping him. Do any of you care to risk
that the females are less powerful than that?"
He shook his head; the answer was obvious to him. "The rest of us
enter the village, find the shard, free the Morgraves, and flee." His
violet eyes searched for Belkar's; whatever the man's fears, this was
something that had to be done. Caring for friends was good, but they
had to keep in mind the interests of far more people.

“And my friends?” Daram’s voice was becoming panicky.
Leif glowered at him, “Yes, you insufferable human, and your friends. Now silence before you become part of the distraction committee!”

OK, I’ve compiled a turn to date to work with for adding my stuff for both games. My father is/has been in town, so I won’t be able to hit tags until tomorrow morning, but hit them I will, and how. FYI
RPG: "Didn't think to fool the women, but the men," Mel said,
shrugging his shoulders. "In the event Leif's distraction pulled
the women from their camp. But don't underestimate the power of
illusion; if you can figure out the right figment for the right
situation, even the strongest mind can be fooled." To a point, for a
time. But Mel didn't feel the need to say that part aloud.
REF: "That's a good idea and much appreciated," Leif smiled. "If Flask
and I can keep them focused on us, Bryn can set some traps, we may have
a good chance of succeeding. The rest can enter the village and located
this shard or whatever."
RPG: The hobgoblin shrugged his shoulders, agreeing with Lan's plan.
"I'm fine with that," he said. It was true that he was at his
best evading capture and remaining unseen. Running circles around the
natives should be possible, even if they did know the terrain. Only the
snake-women's mental powers were an unknown to Mel. He didn't know
just what they were able to do... though it was no certainty the women
would be among the ones to leave their village, and he said as much.
"So in case it's the men who go after us, it falls to you to
withstand the women's powers," Mel said, nodding at Lan, wondering
if the Kalashtar was up to the challenge.

Leif nodded and turned to the others, "Then I think our course of action is clear. I use the crystal from Patua and lead the bulk of them off. The rest of you find that shard and bring it here. The warforged opened his mouth to speak, a myriad troubled thoughts churning around in its mind. But before Ember could vocalize its concerns, Mal countered Leif's point.

"Assuming the women don't chase after you and take their prized possession with them..." Mel said, taking the side of the Traveler. "You can find your way in this jungle, can't you?" the occasional hobgoblin asked, giving Leif a sidelong look. "I imagine you wouldn't enjoy getting lost with half the tribe at your heels..."

He came back to himself in time to hear Leif speak about drawing off the snake women. What had happened while his attention had been elsewhere? They were going to the village after all? The kalashtar quickly caught up with the conversation.
[Ember-new]
Sensing a pause in the discussion, the warforged again primed its bellows to speak. It had figured out what it wanted to say, but the plans being developed by the others were continually distracting the warforged from its singular train of thought. Perhaps Ember should tune out the others again, as Leif had suggested? No, Ember needed to talk with them, to relay information to them. The fleshy creatures had made a possibly flawed assumption.
Ember began to purr, its thick torso reverberating. "Hrrrmm..." Then Belkar spoke up, again beating Ember to the punch.
[cue Belkar's post]
[Belkar]
Belkar listened intently as Leif and Mel laid out their plan. Finally, the human captain spoke, "I don't like it either. Since we first left the estate I have been against us splitting up. And this seems almost too much like offering Leif up as a sacrifice."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Belkar]
Tapping his dirty finger to the javelin over his shoulder, he added, "These also can lend some credence."
[Ember-new]
The warforged was set to talk. It knew its purpose, it could help strategize. But then Belkar mentioned its name, and it focused on its captain's words, waiting for a potential order. The potential order never came, but the living construct's mental pause allowed the next person to opportunity to speak their mind.
[cue something... (Bryn I think?)]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Lan]
The hobgoblin shrugged his shoulders, agreeing with Lan's plan. "I'm fine with that," he said. It was true that he was at his best evading capture and remaining unseen. Running circles around the natives should be possible, even if they did know the terrain. Only the snake-women's mental powers were an unknown to Mel. "So in case it's the men who go after us, it falls to you to withstand the women's powers," Mel said, nodding at Lan, wondering if the Kalashtar was up to the challenge.
[Ember-new]
Suddenly, the warforged hoisted its war maul into the air and brought it down upon an empty piece of earth with enough force to shake the ground under everyone's feet. Those who knew the construct and its tenuous hold on its sanity feared another possession and stepped back hastily. Only the bugbear stood motionless, scanning the verdant jungle with its glazed expression.
The warforged hummed as it looked upon the entire group. It knew it had surprised them all with the outburst, but Ember had grown increasingly frustrated trying to speak its mind. As of now, the others already had a fairly elaborate plan constructed. But was it the right one?
"Hrrrrrrmmmmany pardons," the warforged said humbly. "Must speak, regarding plan." Again, Ember spun in place to take in the entire group. All focused their attention on the warforged, both concerned about what the warforged had to say, and satisfied that Ember was still itself.
The warforged continued. "Plan is sound, yet dangerous. Leif's role noble, yet perhaps unnecessary." Ember sought to get to the heart of its concern quickly, for the others would have little patience to endure a long explanation as to why their plan may not work. "No conclusive evidence that egg is in village. Flask not mention egg in village description. Natives likely parade around, place on pedestal this egg, if possessed."
Leif stirred. Ember must have missed part of the old hobgoblin woman's explanation. "Ember, Khoranaa said that the undying egg attracts large snakes and snake people, that the Shard is never too far from the obelisk. The village is very close to here. Where else could the egg be?"
"The caves," Ember said quickly, for fear of losing its chance to speak again. "Caves behind village." Ember slowly churned through the its logic as it spoke. If the villagers had entered the caves they would have found the egg, and probably brought it out and made it the center of their village. They hadn't though, which means either they hadn't found the egg, or that Ember had misjudged their reaction towards it. The warforged still favored the idea that they didn't have it though, that it lay somewhere in the caves where the natives did not go, either by choice or by fear. "Egg hidden away, likely guarded." There had to be some reason the natives set up their camp near the caves. Perhaps to sacrifice others, like the Morgrave explorers, to the guardian of the egg. Still, given the number of able combatants present, Ember would rather face a single guardian than a whole village of natives.
"Should check caves first, before risking Leif in drawing others away from village. Can approach from jungle, stealthily. Explore cave. Then, if not there, can work plan for village." Ember became silent, allowing the others to digest the construct's suggestion.
[omg, tag all!!!!]

[ooc – with Fabian's permission, I wrote up the following. However, its all subject to him to change or add to. -Gary]
Ø RPG: "It's not a matter of choice but of fate," Mel managed to say with a straight face. Things seemed to be moving along nicely, and the ancient bard's words had certainly sped up the process. However...
Ø "All these broken eggs... have you been watching the site?" Mel asked Khoraana, a sweep of his arm taking in the crushed eggs littering the clearing. He took the opportunity to finally hand the raven-skull wand to the bugbear giant, giving the brute a nervous grin as he stepped within reach of its claws.
[Belkar-New]
Belkar turned to look at the old hobgoblin as Flask asked his question. For a moment, his mind flashed back to the plains as they had questioned the Halflings about Bori's murderer. Particularly the description they had received about his/her's ability to transform itself, to present a different face to the young Halfling guard each time it caught up.
Shaking his head, Belkar returned to the present, hoping that the partially blind lady sitting against the obselisk had some information for them.
With a cackle, she gestured to the ground before them. "You can 'see' better than I. But yes, some fools were here but we did meet them."
Standing with some effort, and beating off the bugbear's insistent paws, the dirge singer placed her hands upon the inscription. Softly she said, "It is obvious that someone has read or knew the poem and was here to find the entrance of the tomb before you."
As the party's face fell she scoffed. "Yet," she said, "they knew nothing of the legend of the hooded wonderer or the true way to his tomb."
Wiping her hands across the dip in the top, she pulled them back and sniffed at them in apparent disgust. "Yes, it seems they even went so far as to cook some of the eggs and eat them. Stupid, but lucky that; the raw ones can weaken a man's stomach for days."
With that, Belkar's face fell farther.
[Bryn / old]
Patting the warforged on his hand, which was about as high as she could reach, Bryn smiled, "Good plan, Ember!"
[Leif / new]
“Caves…” Leif thought out loud, “you are assuming there is only one snake. Even if there is, I’d rather fight it in the open then on its home turf. We’re going to be at a serious disadvantage. Not to mention that those caves are precariously close to the village. If we can find a back door in… perhaps. But if we have to try to sneak in the front we risk alerting the women to our presence. Still, it may be that the “egg” is in the caves. Ember’s logic seems rational. Hmm…”
From the surrounding jungle a rustling was heard. All the talk of snakes had put everyone on edge and most everyone tensed at the sound. A moment later, a small, hand sized black crystal on wispy, green tinged legs emerged from the brush. Audible exhalations almost covered up the feminine voice disconcertingly similar to Leif’s, “Leif’s plan is idiocy. We should go with Ember’s.” Leif’s eyes bulged and his face flushed. Leiflet continued, “No, I don’t want to hear it Leif – you die, I die. Personally, I’m thinking any plan that lowers the risk of our demise is the one we should go with.”
“And running into a snake’s home is a better plan?!” Leif exclaimed.
“Only because we wouldn’t be alone,” Leiflet
explained. She finally reached the group and crawled up Ember’s leg and
onto his shoulder. “Together, I give us a better than average chance of overcoming
almost any obstacle.”
“But we don’t even know that the egg-thingie is in the caves. It may be hidden in the village – in that hut that Flask said they seemed to stay away from. That could be some sort of shrine.” Leif approached the construct. “If we knew that the egg was in the caves, I’d be all for it. But with my plan, we can search both the village and the caves if need be.”
The two stopped talking verbally but it was obvious to all that the argument was still going on. It seemed that Leif’s crystal had picked up a bit of his stubbornness as neither seemed to be backing down.

RPG: Mel jumped when the maul met the ground and squeaked, his eyes
darting this way and that by reflex before coming to rest on the
massive form of the warforged. His face twisted into a sickly grin and
he was evaluating the merits of different avenues of escape when Ember
began to speak. As the hobgoblin listened to the warrior's words he
found himself nodding. It was true; they were leaping into
conclusions... but those conclusions seemed too attractive at the
moment. They just had to look to be certain.
REF: "But we don't even know that the egg-thingie is in the caves.
It may be hidden in the village - in that hut that Flask said they
seemed to stay away from. That could be some sort of shrine." Leif
approached the construct. "If we knew that the egg was in the caves,
I'd be all for it. But with my plan, we can search both the village
and the caves if need be."
RPG: "Were it not for the women and their mind powers, I could
guarantee I could get in and out with none the wiser," Mel mused.
"But considering they sensed me from across the village when there
was no sign to alert them... I believe we must assume they *will* know
when we are approaching, and will know it quickly."
"The caves were close enough to the village that I wouldn't
consider them outside the women's range of detection; indeed, who
knows if the women even live in the caves? I feel certain something
does. That's why I consider the other plan of action better; it's
obvious the women's powers of detection are not infallible, else they
would have found me, and I did sense suspicion in their mental touch.
They could tell I was near, but not who I was or where I stood."
"One point worth mentioning; the natives worship snakes, so likely
they will employ poison as a weapon," Mel went on, his voice serious,
quite unlike that of the Flask they had started to get to know. "If
the little Lady has prayers to fight off the bite of venom, I think she
should consider preparing it. And if you are familiar with the
natives' poisons and their habits... we would appreciate help, though
if you deem we must pass this obstacle on our own, I quite
understand," Mel nodded his head respectfully toward the ancient
bard.

ooc - So, by my count, we have Ember, Leiflet and Bryn voting for stealthy spelunking, and Mel, Lan and Leif voting for the old distraction and fight plan. Gary, you get to prove Belkar's leadership abilities and break the tie. No pressure! Also, whatever we do, are we going to do it now, or wait for the middle of the night, or for morning? If we're going to set some traps, digging pits and the like, that'll take some time.
~Angie
It may be worth scouting for now at least.
BTW, druids have animal communing n stuff, right? Can Bryn talk/charm the big snake?
I think traps should be in the plan no matter what. We don’t know what will happen regardless of the plan – having a way to slow down pursuers (be it monstrous snakes or a angry snake women and their thralls) is probably a decent precaution. Perhaps Flask, Leiflet, and whoever else can go scouting for alternate ways into the caves while the rest set up traps. That way we are prepared for anything.

Unless I hear anything different, I'm going to have the group get near the yuan-ti village
right 'now' (at night).
This allows no change of spells, no additional healing, and no time to set traps.
Please let me know of any special precautions you'll take during this 'scouting'. You know
me; otherwise I'll make whatever assumptions make for a better story... :)
Recap coming out tomorrow so you have about 24 hours for final adjustments.

The kalashtar met the scout's eyes evenly. "If we cannot draw the
females from the village or go around them into the caves we will have
to find another way to acquire the shard. If they are in the village

are too strong to face as a group."

the caves. "Perhaps if we can get close enough to village we may
discover some indication whether the shard is in the village or the
caves. It might be as simple as asking a snake in the jungle where it
feels drawn to- village or caves. Or somewhere else. Could you speak
with a snake well enough to ask it that, Bryn?"
