Tim's been playing the blues since the 1980s and our improvising blues piano course draws on his experience touring and recording with UK and US legends such as Otis Grand, Earl Green, Dana Gillespie, Larry Garner, Joe Louis Walker and many more.
The course is for any intermediate pianist who wants to start playing the blues and improvising in the style. You don't need any knowledge of blues scales or harmony before starting the course, everything's included!
Tim composed all pieces in this blues piano course except where otherwise indicated. Many of the pieces and examples in this course are taken from Tim's best-selling book 'Improvising Blues Piano'. The book is not required to take the course but contains additional material and is the perfect book for your piano or music stand.
Lissie describes herself as a self-taught guitar player, focused more on emotion and rhythm than technique, and has developed her own approach to playing the guitar based on a handful of easy to learn chord shapes that can be easily moved around on the guitar fretboard to play almost any song including many of Lissie's own tracks.
The course includes two exclusive acoustic performances recorded at The Pool studio in London complete with interactive and downloadable chord charts. It is suitable for complete beginner through to intermediate players or simply those that want a rare glimpse 'behind the scenes' of Lissie's music.

In the course, Tim continues to teach and demistify the fundamental concepts you need to play jazz authentically on the piano, including classic one and two handed voicings, playing over common chord progressions, comping techniques and modal improvisation.

Welcome to Exploring Jazz Piano video course, Part 2! In the course, Tim continues to teach pianists the fundamental concepts you need to play jazz authentically on the piano including one and two handed voicings, II V Is, comping techniques and modal improvisation.
This course is based on Tim Richards' Exploring Jazz Piano, Volume 1, Awarded the prestigious Music Industries Association Award in 2006 for Best Pop Publication. The overall level is intermediate, and would suit pianists of Grade 4 standard and above.
Other topics covered include: Chord/scale relationships, modes, broken chord and scale patterns, pentatonic and blues scales, walking bass lines, Latin rhythms and bass lines, the diatonic cycle, secondary dominants, II V I sequences, horizontal and vertical improvisation, tritone substitution, two-handed voicings, rootless voicings, technical exercises and fingering, accompaniment styles, ear-training, discography (suggested listening).
It is based on the hugely successful method for alto saxophone Introducing the Saxophone, published by Vienna based publisher Universal Edition, and is the first of its kind providing popular styles yet allowing for a sound musical development through to intermediate level.
The course follows on from Introducing the Saxophone Part 1, and includes more lessons, demonstrations and peformances with backing track accompaniments that make practice fun and help the student to build confidence in playing and performing.
