Thisis my latest model: Academy's 1/48 MiG-29A 'Fulcrum-A'. There's a lot of aftermarket in this: Aires cockpit and exhausts, Eduard Brassin wheels, Quickboost nose, IR sensor and 'sensing units', DANModels PE, CAM Decals decals and Begemot decals. Paint is Akan laquers sprayed freehand. A fuller write up and a lot more photos are here: -148-mikoyan-mig-29a-fulcrum-a/

Looks great. I really like the paint job with that shark mouth. I have this kit and should just get off my butt and do it warts and all. I will go to your link to have a look and get some tips. Thanks for sharing.

This is my first model after about seven years. I decided to come back to the hobby after my accidental last years visit to Israeli Air Force museum (near Beersheva in the Negev desert). The history connected with the planes, the colors and the beauty of the planes made me want to have similar museum at home for my everyday pleasure.

My MiG-29 is the Academy 1/48 scale kit. I do not want to get into reviewing the kit because it was done by many people many times before. For me it is a beautifully engineered model with good fit just cool looking.

The only major disappointment is cockpit area and ejection seat particularly. But again, this is something notoriously known for anybody who has seen academy MiG-29 or Su-27 kits.

The kit was built without any improvement. The only area where I tried to add some detail was cockpit. Adding a new ejection seat is a must given the sorry look of the original Academy thing. I used the beautiful Pavla Models 1/48 K-36 ejection seat.

New weapons acquirements from Russia was politically unacceptable and supplies of spare parts from Russia seemed unreliable and furthermore, so the government decided to sell twelve Czech MiGs to Poland.

As for the weathering, I have practically done none as this particular plane had been only three years in service in 1992. I accentuated panel lines with pencil. I also tried to do some pre-shading, but as this was new technique to me, I airbrushed too much of upper coats of color, so the pre-shading does not show up.

Following the success of the Izdelie 9-12 and 9-13, the Mikoyan OKB developed a series of upgrades for MiG-29M (9-15) production and offered these upgrades to bring the older 9-12 and 9-13 airframes up to the capabilities of the 9-15. While the 9-13 had some air-to-ground capabilities, the 9-12 was strictly an air-to-air fighter and these new upgrades made the 9-12 airframes far more capable combat aircraft. These upgraded 9-12 and 9-13 airframes were redesignated as MiG-29SMT 9-17. The MiG-29SMT is recognizable by the large dorsal spine and includes a new radar and up-rated engines in addition to improved avionics and weapons capabilities. The MiG-29SMT underwent additional improvements which incremented the block (izdelie) identifications through 9-18 and 9-19.

Great Wall Hobby is a kit manufacturer from China that has been producing a number of great subjects overlooked by other manufacturers. This latest release represents the 9-19 and is the first production kit of this subject in 1/48 scale.
