Some of the most famous impressionist painters found inspiration in the town of Auvers-sur-Oise, a small town surrounded by greenery and a beautiful river. This is the town where Vincent van Gogh spent his final days, and here you can the artist's resting place. Once you visit this idyllic French village, you too will understand why so many artists found inspiration here, as its stone houses and pretty country lanes look as if they belong in a painting.
While you may have to fight crowds during your Versailles visit, this is definitely a destination that should be on your Ile-de-France list. The main attraction in Versailles is, of course, the Palace of Versailles, which is considered one of the most exquisite palaces in the world. However, there is more to Versailles than just the palace. The town of Versailles is also worth a visit, and it feels almost like an extension of Paris. This pretty town has a number of great restaurants and cafes, and since it's just about an hour by train from Paris, Versailles is an easy day trip if you're staying in the French capital.
