Hi Parents & Scouts,

Here is more information to help you and your scout decide if you would like to go to summer camp.  This will be discussed by Anita Holland and Alex Fly tonight at the meeting.  Please have your questions ready.  Signup and down payment is next week.

Date:  June 14 - 20

Location:  Buffalo Trails Scout Ranch  http://buffalotrailbsa.org/buffalo-trail-scout-ranch-btsr-2/

Traditional Camp Cost $332 (Leader $232) plus transportation cost

  • $300 base camp cost ($200 for leader)
  • $25 scout wiicking shirt
  • $7 star party at McDonald Observatory Thursday night
  • Transportation cost will be finalized in February after sign-up/first down payment.  Cost to rent a 15 person van for one week is $801 plus gas.  The church limits van to 12 passengers.  Cost will be divided among all participants. This quotes is from Capps who we used last time.  I will shop around more in February.

Sign-up and Payment Schedule for Scout & Leader

  • Sign-up and pay non-refundable deposit by Tuesday, Jan 27.  $100 per scout; $75 per leader.
    • The camp needs our count by Feb 1 and we need number to finalize transportation cost.  If you want to go, but need to make financial arrangements, please talk to Ann Marie by Jan 27.  Also camp gives scholarships, so let me know if you would like the paperwork to complete and send in to BTSR.
    • If you miss sign-up, we can not guarantee that you will be able to go.  We are trying to save a few spaces for the new scouts joining the troop, but current members are expected to sign-up in January.

  • 2nd payment - April Scout $75 and Leader $50

  • Final Payment - Tuesday May 12 - payment is due to camp by May 15

For Boys 13 an older - Separate High Adventure options:

These options are available to individuals or small groups of scouts.  Individual scouts that choose these options would be paired with scouts from other troops and would be away from the main camp area for the majority of the week. This camp does not have high-adventure classes like the camps of the past.

Here is the high adventure guidebook that covers most of the details:

http://buffalotrailbsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/BTSR-2015-High-Adventure-Booklet.pdf

Here are summaries of the High Adventure options during the week we are attending (scuba not available our week):

                Outback Hiking:

o   Fee:  $430 (instead of $300 for traditional summer camp program, not in addition to the $300)

o   Different hikes and durations available with varying difficulty – up to 60 miles and meeting the 50 mile requirement for hiking merit badge

o   Includes several high adventure activities like climbing and COPE along the hiking and camping trails

o   Ages 13 and older

o   Majority of week would be spent away from the rest of the troop

o   Details:  http://buffalotrailbsa.org/btsr/program-schedule/outback-hiking/

Mountain Man:

o   Fee $325 (instead of $300 for traditional summer camp program, not in addition to the $300)

o   Spend the week living like settlers in the 1800’s

o   Ages 13 and older

Thanks for all your hard work to get this fun summer camp set up. The boys attending will need additional funds to cover a meal on the way up and back, incidentals at the scout trading post (merit badge requirements and personal) and food at the observatory.

Thanks again - james swisher

Hi Troop 701 -

Reminder sigh-up for camp is tomorrow!!!  The details are repeated below.

Also here is the scholarship information.  If you apply for scholarship, please complete the attached paperwork and submit it to the Gracie Quintela at BTSR.  You will need someone from our leadership to sign-off.  This can be a Scout Master or Lorna. I would submit asap so that your scout can be considered.

Also please let me know your of your application or intention to apply so that your scout will be counted in all final numbers

gracie.quintela@scouting.org

See you tomorrow night for sign-up!!!
