Shrines of Pittsburgh Hike

A Scout is Reverent.

The Catholic Committee on Scouting invites you to enjoy an inspirational day exploring the beautiful and historic “Shrines of Pittsburgh.”

The Shrines of Pittsburgh Hike will be Saturday October 22nd starting at 10:00 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish located at 3058 Brereton St. Pittsburgh, PA 15219. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parking lot is on the corner of 30th and Brereton Streets. The entrance to the parking lot is on Phelan Way.

The shrines are holy places rich with history, decorated with magnificent relics, larger-than-life paintings, spiritual steps, embellished stained glass windows and massive domes that can be spotted from miles away.

The five churches comprising The Shrines of Pittsburgh are St. Anthony Chapel on Troy Hill, St. Nicholas Church in Millvale, St. Patrick and St. Stanislaus Kostka Churches in the Strip District and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Polish Hill. Due to logistics, we will be visiting only four of them.

There will be brief times at each church for prayer, guided by a pilgrimage prayer booklet with readings and prayers relevant to the saints of each church. We plan on celebrating mass at the end of our pilgrimage.

We will be walking from shrine to shrine, for a total distance of approximately three miles, so be prepared. Also, each participant should bring a packed lunch.
