PLC:
Mr. Rouse and I had a conversation with a boat broker this afternoon, trying to put some detail into our proposed sailing trip this summer.
Here’s what we were able to narrow down:
Week of 6/17-24 is target for trip. Earlier was not preferred by you guys, plus Daryll returns from Stephen’s graduation in British Columbia on 6/13. The later we push it, the more the weather tends toward more heat and less wind, so this is probably as good as the timing will get for us.
Location is most likely the British Virgin Islands, which is highly recommended for first time cruisers because there are lots of boats there, lots of nice locations, and not terribly difficult navigation challenges. Note BVI will require passports.
We should expect snorkling and swimming, maybe a day hike, and a place called the Baths (?) which was described as rocks the size of houses that you can climb on and swim around/under. Sounds pretty sweet.
I’m sure we could add additonal excursions if we want.
We hope to get two boats – one for Scouts and one for Adults. But so far we don’t think there will be many youth who sign on to this trip, so maybe we won’t get enough to justify a second boat. This is a question we will have to answer soon. So let’s please get a list of attendees. Youth and Adults.
There are still quite a few unknowns, so our cost estimate is pretty rough at this point, but something on the order of $2000 is our starting point.
-Derek.
