When
you give to Scouting, you help do incredible
things...
|
Currently a Freshman at
the University of South Florida in Tampa, Mac
first joined Scouts in 2001 as a Tiger Cub and
stayed in Scouting with until he turned 18, and
completed all the requirements to achieve the
rank of Scout.
A
couple of months following the conclusion of his
project, Mac was notified that one of the swabs
he collected was a match! The donor
traveled up north to undergo a bone marrow
transplant for a recipient and the recipient is
alive today due to the bone marrow match from
Mac's Eagle Scout project!
It's
not too late to pledge your gift and help
us!

Ensuring Training Records are
Accurate |
At times adult unit
leaders' training records do not contain an
accurate listing of all training sessions or
courses completed. The online E-Learning Course
Management System on the national website -
accessed through MyScouting accounts - uses a
different program and server than the database
used by both the national BSA organization and
councils to maintain individuals' personal
records - the system known as ScoutNet. These
two systems communicate during scheduled data
uploads from MyScouting to ScoutNet. Data upload
from MyScouting to ScoutNet is solely dependent
on matching BSA membership numbers. Registered
BSA leaders must include their BSA membership
number in their MyScouting account profile to
ensure online training completed in the online
E-Learning Course Management System is credited
to them. This is easy to do, and once done will
follow an individual throughout his or her
Scouting life.
First,
it is very important that just one account per
individual is set up in MyScouting. Once an
account is set up, always use the same user name
and password to sign in. The user name and
password should be written down and kept it in a
safe, easy to find place so it can referenced if
needed. If more than one account per individual
has been set up, the National Support Center can
be called at (972) 580-2000. Simply tell the
person answering the issue needing to be
resolved, and connection with the appropriate
person will be made. The Scouting professional
or staffer will be able to merge accounts into
one, and will help with setting up a new user
name and password if necessary. Remember - keep
that user name and password!

Recipients |
T
he Boy Scouts of America,
acting through the National Court of Honor,
annually presents the Silver Beaver Award for
distinguished service to youth in the local
community. This award is the highest honor a Boy
Scout Council can bestow on a volunteer. The
award will be presented at the Central Florida
Council Recognition Banquet, Friday, June 13,
2014 at 7:00PM. The banquet will be held at the
Buena Vista Palace Resort and Spa, 1900 Buena

through service given to the council. The award
is presented to those who implement the Scouting
program and perform community service through
hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many
years of service. Most importantly, it is
presented to those who do not actively seek it.
Thirty-one very qualified nominations were
received and considered by the awards
committee.
Based
upon prescribed criteria, related to the number
of youth served, the Central Florida Council is
entitled to present this award to fourteen

"A
week of camp life is worth six months of
theoretical teaching in the meeting
room." - Sir Robert Baden
Powell
The
summer months are for me the most exciting and
rewarding time of the Scouting year because it
is the time that Scouting comes alive for a
boy. During the first five months of the
year our staff and thousands of volunteers focus
our attention on the "Friends of Scouting" and
"Golden Eagle Dinner" campaign securing more
than $2.0 million in resources necessary to
deliver the exciting programs a boy was promised
when his District Executive visited his class
room inviting him to join Scouting.
When
school dismisses for the summer the fun begins.
The Central Florida Council is ranked # 2 in the
nation with 80% of our Boy Scouts being provided
a long term camping experience and # 1 in the
nation, with the number of our Cub Scouts
participating in a day camp program or overnight
family camping trip.
Beginning
in June more than 10,000 Scouts will enroll in a
camping experience at either Camp La-No-Che or
Cub Day Camp here in Central Florida.
Additionally, many Central Boy Scouts will
travel to other Boy Scout Camps throughout the
Southern Region. And likewise, Boy Scouts from
neighboring Councils will choose Camp La-No-Che
as their destination, where they will be
captivated by a multitude of exciting programs
including our newly completed Brown
& Brown Insurance Aquatics Center
and our widely renowned Native American
Program. It is at summer camp where a
Scout puts into practice all that he has learned
throughout the year. As our founder,
Baden-Powell once said, "In Scouting, a boy is
encouraged to educate himself instead of being
instructed."
None
of this exciting program could occur without an
army of devoted Scout leaders who often give up
weeks of family vacation time to accompany their
Troops to summer camp.
With
Mother's Day has just around the corner, I would
be remiss in not acknowledging the tremendous
contribution of moms among our ranks of Scout
leaders by wishing them a happy Mother's Day.
I
am grateful for and thank all of you for what
you do for
Scouting!
Yours in
Scouting,
Ron Oats
