Subject: Great opportunities for Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors

Hello Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors and Parents/Guardians,

I am pleased to share with you this information about some outstanding opportunities for you/your daughter this summer.
Attached you will find information and an application to be a part of our council’s Global Green Team, a team of 15 girls who will have the opportunity to partner with Girl Guides from the country of Italy on a global environmental Take Action project (which could potentially be a great Girl Scout Gold Award project as well!).  Please read the attached information for all of the details. I’ve attached two versions – hopefully everyone will be able to open at least one.  The deadline to apply is June 14th.

Additionally, I wanted to make you aware that there are still openings for many Girl Scout destinations trips (trips that Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors take individually, with chaperones and other girls from around the country), and the two trips mentioned below have a significantly reduced cost.  In addition, Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia has financial assistance available for qualified girls to attend destinations, for any destination you choose. Don’t delay, it’s first come, first served until the opportunities are filled.  For more information, and to see the complete list of destinations still available, go to: http://www.girlscouts.org/forgirls/travel/destinations/.

Questions about GSHG destinations financial assistance or any of this?  Contact Betsy Connell, bcon...@gshg.org, 770-536-8656.

Happy Summer!

Dear Councils,

We have spaces available for two Alpine Training Service (ATS) destinations – Channel Island Adventure and San Juan Kayak Pack. All accepted girls will receive a scholarship of $500 from Elliott Wildlife Values Project that will cover approximately 1/3 of the event fee of $1650. Girls will be responsible for the balance and travel expenses to get to and from the event. Additional need based funding is available by contacting ATS for possible financial assistance. Applications will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis. Please share with girls that are interested in the natural sciences, environmental concerns, indigenous animal species, the ocean, and adventure. Thanks for spreading the word to your girls, leasers, troops, service units and volunteers.

Girls will need to complete the destinations application available on the destinations website:

Channel Islands Adventure:
What: The Channel Islands Adventure is a travel opportunity (destination) where Girl Scouts ages 14 -18 come together to explore the "Galapagos of North America" - Channel Islands National Park. This unique island chain hosts over 400 species of plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth. Whether hiking the peaks and canyons, or kayaking through sea caves girls will learn a greater appreciation for the natural world and the diversity it holds within. In this amazing outdoor classroom, we'll have a chance to explore, dream, and discover.

When: July 15-21, 2012

San Juan Kayak:
What: The San Juan Kayak Pack  is a travel opportunity (destination) where Girl Scouts ages 15-18 come together to explore the San Juan Island chain off the coast of Washington. This archipelago that forms Puget Sound is home to hundreds of apple species including several pods of Orca whales. Each summer we explore the island chain by kayak while looking for these elusive and beautiful mammals while also enjoying crystal clear waters, amazing sunsets, and lots of fresh berries.

When: July 29-Aug 4, 2012

For more information:

Applications should be sent to:

Brent Fidler
Alpine Training Services
417-B W. Foothill Blvd. #528
Glendora, CA 91741
Attn: Channel Island Adventure Expedition or San Juan Kayak

Thanks for your help! Hopefully, girls from your council will be able to participate. Two great destinations at a wonderful price! Special thanks to Elliott Wildlife Values Project for this scholarship.
